Hi All,

3D Canvas 6.5.1.0 and 3D Canvas 6.6.1.0 are now available:

Download 3D Canvas 6.5.1.0
Download 3D Canvas 6.6.1.0

These releases fix a number of bugs including the problem where animations could not be raytraced in 6.6.0.2.

I am hoping that it also fixes a problem where some computers could not install the current releases and were getting an "Unable to configure DirectX" error. I never did find a cause for this despite a massive amount of work. In the end I decided that it was likely a DLL/OCX version problem so I just formatted my computer and was careful about what I installed so as to not cause the problem again.

What's New in 3D Canvas 6.5.1.0/6.6.1.0
---------------------------------------

o) Additional Imports for Freeware Version

The freeware version of 3D Canvas now includes import support for:

- Biovision (bvh)
- MD2
- Neutral Object Format (nof)
- Raw Triangles (raw)
- Wavefront (obj)
- WorldToolKit (nff)

o) Imagine (iob) Import/Export (3D Canvas Pro only)

o) XGL (xgl) Import/Export (3D Canvas Pro only)

o) ZGL (zgl) Import/Export (3D Canvas Pro only)

o) Lightwave (lwo) Import Improved (3D Canvas Pro only)

Imported Lightwave files now retain texture information.

3D Canvas 6.6.1.0 can be installed alongside 3D Canvas 6.5.1.0 There should be no significant conflicts. It should be possible to open models created in version 6.6.1.0 with version 6.5.1.0. You will have to re-enter your license code after installing these new versions.

I am not sure if 3rd party Plug-ins/Operations will need updating or not. I'm going to check into that later today.

Note that only Windows XP/2000 are supported with these versions of 3D Canvas. There is no longer support for Windows 9x/Me. As many of you know Microsoft dropped support for Windows Me in December/2003 and Windows 9x a while back. That being said, you may find that 3D Canvas works just fine with Window 9x/Me, but it isn't "officially" supported.

I forgot to mention that the new import/export formats do not support textures yet.

Also a few other formats (esp. 3DS) have improved somewhat due to some bug fixes.

It looks like none of the Plugins for 6.5 or 6.6 need to be recompiled so you should be able to use those on the Amabilis website without any troubles.

I can confirm that my plugins still appear in the menus for 6.5.1.0 and 6.6.1.0

I ran a couple of them and seemed to be OK.

I have installed 6.6.1.0 as well as 6.5.1.0 and have found that the display of some of my simple models with transparency is greatly improved. I am really happy about that.

Moments ago, I tried to get the wonderful Deanville plugin "Piper" installed in 6.6.1.0, however it doesn't seem to show up in the list of plug-ins even though the .dll downloaded from the Amabilis site (Piper6601.zip) is in place in the Plug-ins folder.

Perhaps it needs to be updated/compiled?

Piper is great! I'd like to see it's companion "Foundry" available too. All is not lost, however, since I can step back to the 6.5.1.0 version where either of those plug-ins are needed.

Is there any hope of getting piper and foundry to work in 6.6.1.0... it's the only version I can use now.

Just for those who may have missed it, Deanville has compiled his plug-ins for 3D Canvas 6.6.1.0 and posted them here.

Hello,
Could you tell me what is the last version of 3D CANVAS PRO i may download. Indeed, i don't know for instance if i may skip some intermediate versions and which ones are only free. For the moment, i have the version 6.5.1.0 PRO.
Thank you in advance.

6.6.1.0 is the most recent release, but generally I don't recommend it because it is noticably slower than 6.5.1.0. It is a free upgrade for you.
