6.0.1.1 is now available for download: http://www.3d-canvas.com/downloads/3DCanvas6011.zip
Note that the downloadable 3rd party plugins do NOT work with this version yet. Hopefully they will be available soon. The third party scripts should all still work though.
This is another small release that includes only one change. A new Bend operation. Even though it is a small release it lays the groundwork for a lot of new features. The supporting software has been written for "volume based" operations. That means it is now relatively simple to write operations that work on a "volume" defined by a Operation Control. Since these new operations operate on a volume rather than specific points, you can make changes to the underlying objects and the operation will still re-apply (assuming the general shape hasn't changed much). I'll post some example pictures below.
Unfortunately I couldn't get the scripting changes into this release (Sorry Paul!). It turned out to be bigger than I was expecting so it will have to wait until 6.0.2.0. At that point I hope to permit users to create operations (for 3D Canvas Pro), not just plug-ins and scripts. Operations are harder to write, but they provide lots more features.
I am going on holidays on Tuesday (though will still be continuing support while I am away) and am hoping that many of you will try this out this weekend so that I can send out a 6.0.1.2 before I leave if necessary.
What's new in 3D Canvsa 6.0.1.1 -------------------------------
o) New Bend Operation
A new simpler Bend operation is now available. It now includes simple volume based controls to easily select the region of the object to bend.
The old Bend operation is still available and is now called the Warp operation.
The "height" of the operation control scaled smaller. Notice that the part outside of the operation control is unbent (as it should be obviously). Actually, to be more accurate it is "bent" at the maximum bend angle. If it wasn't this would look really strange.
The operation control moved higher and reduced in height. This makes a tighter bend with (of course) only those points contained within the operation control "bent".
Richard, that looks like a very sweet concept...you've solved a problem I haven't had a chance to run into yet with my next paper model.
It's a simplified version of the bug I posted here, and that tool would greatly simplify the process of bending the leg extrusions...and I can think of many other applications for it. For a small change, that's actually a very significant and convenient one.
Glad you are liking the new operation. I'm quite happy with it and the potential for these "types" of operations. I actually started this operation in August of last year. It was supposed to be released with 6.0, but I had some major problems integrating it into 3DC and had to pull it from the release. Fortunatley I figured it out.
