Hi All,

A few websites advertised 3D Canvas 6.0.1.0 as being available today so as a result I had to release it early. It wasn't supposed to be released for another week and it was a bit of a scramble to get it ready in a couple of hours. As a result of the early release none of the scripting enhancements are included in this release. They will be released in about a week with 6.0.1.1.

6.0.1.0 can be downloaded here: http://www.3d-canvas.com/downloads/3DCanvas6010.zip

Note that none of the downloadable non-Amabilis plugins work with this version yet. Hopefully they will be available soon. The third party scripts should all still work though.

What's new in 3D Canvsa 6.0.1.0
-------------------------------

o) User-Configurable Function Sets

Options are now available to define which sets of operations, plug-ins
and scripts are available. This allows users to remove clutter by
hiding functions that they do not use on a regular basis.

o) Non-Linear Navigation and Editing

The Navigation and Edit Controls now work in a non-linear fashion.
This allows easier modelling of large objects.

o) Operation Defaults Available via Right-Click

Operation defaults can now be set using the older right-click method
as well as the new "Remember These Setting" function.

As much as I'd love to get my hands on it, I think I can wait a week before I upgrade.  Sorry to hear that you had to rush it out.  Who do you want us to beat up? Wink

All of the Amabilis created downloadable plug-ins are now available. Unfortunately Paul's aren't available yet and may not be for a while (he may be busy or want to wait until 6.0.1.1).

I would appreciate it if some of you could try the release out to see if it works for you. I test it on my computer and my test system, but that is only two configurations. I usually like to have a beta just to see if I didn't mess up royally somewhere. This time I didn't have that luxury so as we speek thousands (literally) of people are downloading it and I don't know if it works or how well it works.

Thanks,

Richard

Hey, who jumped the gun on you? That was most unkind and presumptuous of them...

I got a wiffle bat and a pair of oversized foam Hulk fists with their name on it. Oh yes. Vengeance shall be sweet. Muhahahahaha...ahem.

Who do these people think they are anyway? I'd think that, logically speaking, software would be ready only when and if the programmer says it is.

I really don't think it'd be fair to you if all those users downloading it encounter a showstopper and then start whining about it like toddlers in the backseat of a hot car halfway to nowhere. I have to educate enough incompetent Canvas-bashing losers on other forums already, another couple thousand would start to really tax my patience, hehheh...

Alrighty Then... I guess it  *IS* time to quit using 5.7 then because of...

"Operation Defaults Available via Right-Click

Operation defaults can now be set using the older right-click method as well as the new "Remember These Setting" function. "

Thanks!  I was too set in my ways to enjoy the new method.

Alrighty, I downloaded it and put it through its paces (lunch break at the moment, I'll try to break it on the weekend Wink and it looks good so far. Upgrade went without a hitch. Played with subdivision surfaces (as I think it was changed/fixed in a recent release that I neglected to download) Turned off and on and off functions that I don't use regularly (particle, bulge, twirl, etc...) and I used the Update Material Plug-in. Nothing broken yet Smile But, er....whats non-linear navigation/editing? I'm not too hip with the lingo as of yet.

About the "escape"... A long story that was ultimately my fault. I bought a listing at a well known download location that was supposed to go live in 10 days. But at the same time I had a previous request to reclassify 3D Canvas as a "3D Modelling and CAD" program rather than a "Animation" program. They just now created that classification. I think they took pity on me since I had been waiting for the reclassification for so long and expedited my version upgrade. Not good since the new version wasn't ready. I was "pre-ordering" the listing with the expectation that I would be done before it went live. Which it would have been! Ultimately my fault.

BTW 3D Canvas is now the #1 downloaded 3D Modelling program at ZDNET and the #3 downloaded 3D Modelling program at Download.com. Roughly 1/4 million downloads between the two.

And I now see 3D Canvas was a "featured" release today: http://download.com.com/2001-2016-0.html?tag=stbc.gp

Richard,

Thanks for the latest version. I have downloaded it and it is simply amazing.  I hope that with 1/4 million downloads,  several percent will pay up and join the registered user group.  This will be great for you economically, and for the group artistically, as new participants contribute either through questions, or by answers, tutorials, plug-ins, scripts and models.

I am eager to see what enhancements you are making in the API.

Many thanks,

Charles

cohern,

several percent would be a lot. Percentages of downloads vs. sales for software are generally pretty low. 1% (or less) is pretty typical for a good software product that has competition.

kirk,

Thanks. You might want to post something in the "Mini-Tutorials" section.

All,

30,000 downloads of 6.0.1.0 in 3 days. Not too shabby.  Smile For those who have websites of their own that is 210 GB in 3 days. Ouch!.
