Hi All,
3D Canvas 7.0.2.3 is now available for download: Download 3D Canvas 7.0.2.3 This release contains an assortment of minor bug fixes, but is primarily for improving 3D Canvas load times on NVIDIA based systems. One improvement that I'm really happy about is that it is now possible to resize the 3D Canvas window without deselecting "Show windows contents while dragging". That's bugged me for years. I just never thought of a solution until now. This release has not been extensively tested, so at this point it would have to be considered "Pre-Release". I won't be adding it to the main download page until I hear positive reports. Richard This message has been edited. Last edited by: Amabilis Support, |

Richard, I can confirm that this release has considerably improved loading times on my setup. It now takes 10 seconds to open canvas now (previously nearly 2 minutes)
Also, I can double click on a canvas file and have it load canvas and the model in about 30 seconds. Previously this would have taken closer to 5 minutes. A great improvement I haven't had chance to check out the rest of the program, though. Cheers, Kevin |

That's good to hear.
People had mentioned it was slow, and I knew it was, but I thought it was "one of those things" and I couldn't do much about it. But fortunately, I was wrong. I just got a new NVIDIA based notebook computer specifically so I could optimize for NVIDIA systems. I just updated my original post because I thought of one improvement that I'm really happy about (resizing the 3D Canvas window) Now, back to work. |

I decided to officially release 7.0.2.3. It seemed that as many people as possible should get the performance improvements as soon as possible.

Hi,
the program loads much faster now, however it is unstable. When I press the button "duplicate object", 3DC go to crash ;-( |

Are you using XP or Vista?
Anyone else having this problem? I tried it on two Vista computers without problems. |

Richard,
just tried it and can confirm there is a problem (using Vista Premium). Seems to happen when you try and duplicate an object for the second time. You then have a "white out" of the screen and have the program has stopped working error message. Seems to be something to do with the Data Execution prevention (DEP) settings as you get a message that the program has been shut down because of this. If you switch DEP off for canvas then you get a straight crash to desktop, with no warning, when you use the duplicate option for the second time (on the same object) Hope this is of some use. I am running Vista with an NVidia 8800GTX. If I drop a cube on an empty scene, Duplicate works normally. If I then texture the cube ( using the default marble texture ), then hit Duplicate, I get no visible error indication, but the view controls in the lower left don't work. I can actually still use the menu bar and save the file, its just that most of the buttons don't seem to work.

I had a similar "pause" after creating an extrude object. Saving, exiting and reloading displayed the model correctly.

I noticed the same problem, when I select a file and dupicate it, the main window freezes, but the file menu still works.
The problem seems to happen right after the duplicated objects make their appearance in the scene hierarchy window. I have attached a small screen capture. Note that this textures for the little chimmney are not displayed in the two duplicated chimmneys. Nvidia 7600 GT, XP duplicated.gif (61 Kb, 7 downloads) Screenshot of duplicated Object |

I think I found the problem. I've uploaded 7.0.3.0 which I hope resolves it.
