Hi All,
3D Canvas 7.0.1.2 is now available for download: Download 3D Canvas 7.0.1.2 3D Canvas 6.6.5.16 is now available for download: Download 3D Canvas 6.6.5.16 What's New ---------- o) Support for Windows Vista The install program of 3D Canvas has been updated to provide files required by Windows Vista o) Automatic Removal of Duplicate Faces The Optimize operation has a new option to remove duplicate faces. What's Fixed ------------ o) The Chamfer Operation no longer produces duplicate faces o) Faces with large numbers of points can now be rendered o) Shift operation Z rotation is available again. o) Error 380 when clicking on material library o) Edit control is sized and positioned correctly Version 7.0.1.2 no longer requires a download of additional features. The "Download the Pro Upgrade" function on the Help menu is gone. It has been replaced by a "Download Updated Help". So, if you don't need the help there is only one download required. This makes it so there is no chance of mismatched Pro Upgrades. It also means that the download is now 10MBs. I couldn't do this before because the cost of providing downloads was too high. But it's went down recently. Richard This message has been edited. Last edited by: Amabilis Support, |

I just switched to 7.x yesterday: face removal seems OK (I was wondering if the remark from Paul ( overzealous removal of duplicate faces) meant that sometimes holes would be created because of to many faces removal).
Richard, from a previous remark, I understand 6.6.5.16 is the last 6.6.x version (unless some major bug occurs maybe). For 6.5 models, is it safer to convert to 6.6 and then 7.0? |

Even with both upgrader addins installed, I've found 7.0 to be better at converting from 6.5!
6.6 seems to muck up the material brightness and textures from time to time. |

DOM107,
Yes 6.6.5.16 is the last in the 6.6 series, unless as you say there is a critical bug. Actually, I was pleased to find that I could retrofit my changes for Vista to 6.6 also. That means that anyone who purchased 3D Canvas since June 2002 can get a free upgrade that runs on Vista. I'm happy about that. I hate when recently purchased software stops working because of an OS upgrade. What Paul reported is only a problem for models that have double-sided objects (usually an exterior and an interior). It won't likely happen with a model created manually (not via a plugin). Paul, There are bug fixes that went into 7.0 that didnt' got into 6.6 regarding brightness. But, I don't recall anything about textures. |
