Hi All,

3D Canvas 7.1.1.3 is now available for download: Download 3D Canvas 7.1.1.3

This release has quite a few fixes for the Rail Simulator export and the Train Simulator Wizard and is only intended for those who need the Trainworks features of 3D Canvas.

3D Canvas 7.1.1.2 will continue to be the primary version of 3D Canvas for those not using the Trainworks features of 3D Canvas.

A reminder that 3D Canvas Pro users need to enable the Trainworks functions via Toos -> Options -> Misc.

Good to see that Paul. Smile

Now that things are stabilized, I guess I can get to updating documentation. I'm not doing any more coding until I get the help file straightened out.

Actually, it wasn't until very recently that I felt we had got a handle on what exactly what is need for Rail Simulator materials etc. I wouldn't have wanted to start without having that straight.

If anyone has any tips on Rail Simulator, be sure to post it on the FAQ: Rail Simulator FAQ

For those that downloaded it early, I forgot the rivet plugin and align operation - there's a new installer there now.

Is this a new version 7.1.1.3
I downloaded a vers 7.1.1.3 dated Thursday, 10 January 2008 and a 3DCanvas7113Beta3Updates.zip dated Saturday, 12 January 2008

So the question is, does this release, replace both these beta files completely??

Hi, I don't think I've posted here in a long time, but I just wanted to say I've been a 3D Canvas user since 2002 and I'm really enjoying the updates on the program over the last several years (except 6.6 being sloooow). I use it to create models for all of the games I've created and am currently working on (Dark Basic/Pro). I've tried other modeling programs, but the molding like clay is what seems to make the most sense to me.

Thanks. Good to hear from an "old timer". Smile

I have to admit that the original 6.6 was a dog of a release. 6.6.5 on the other hand is much better, though still pretty slow on NVIDIA hardware. 7.1 is a favourite of mine. Smile Smile

It's a funny thing about modelling programs...people "relate" to different modelling styles. I guess that's part of the reason there are twenty or thirty 3D Canvas competitors. Frown

Could you default the other way round? (ie if you don't want (is it possible ? Smile ) trainworks functions, remove it in Tools -> Options -> Misc)

Two reasons why I have the "trainworks" functions disabled by default:

1) I don't want 3D Canvas to be known as "only" a "Train Modelling" tool. I want to retain its "general modelling" reputation.

2) since train modelling is somewhere between 5% and 10% of 3D Canvas's usage it makes sense to disable the train functions because they get in the way of the vast majority of modellers.

To make up for this, I put the trainworks functions at the top of the menus when it is enabled.

FYI: This is getting better all the time. I'm floored by the speed improvements with each release!!!

I'm a train modeler... but I also use 3D Canvas for many other non-train projects too... it makes sense be able to simplify the pulldown list. Nice change, in my opinion.

--- Off Topic a Bit ---

It's too bad 3D Canvas didn't become a car modeler tool as well. 3D modeling for Car Sims is basically to use 3DMAX (which none of us have, I figure) or a really non-intuitive thing called Z-Modeler. There is a way to get Canvas to make cars that can be used but it's a multi-step process.

SIMS I try to model for are rFactor, GTR GTR2, GTlegends. No success yet, actually... but that's my fault.
