Heya,
Having a problem with my exported sw3d model. I'm actually thinking its not a 3dcanvas problem, but I'm hoping that someone (hopefully RIchard Smile will have some insight into whats going on and how to fix it.

Essentially, I have a model of a filing cabinet...the outside body of the filing cabinet has draws that slide inside. However two of the draws seem to be not be draw when imported into shockwave, as if the filing cabinet body is obscuring them..when as you can see from the model in 3dcanvas they aren't.

Any thoughts on how to fix it?

Cheers
Dale

NOTE 3dcanvas on left...sw3d on right. see the bottom two draw are obscured...leaving only the the handle and name plate visible

The more shockwave questions the better. Really! It helps all that come later.

I am pretty much 100% certain this is a Shockwave 3D issue (of some sort). If you try rotating the object you'll find that random drawer fronts disappear, not just the bottom drawers. This is a pretty clear indicator of a rendering problem. Perhaps if you redesigned your drawer fronts so they were one piece you might have better luck. Also, make sure that your texture doesn't have any translucency. That can cause similar problems. For that matter, make sure that you don't have any translucency in your materials either.

That's about all I can suggest...

Thanks Richard, I figured it wouldnt be something 3D canvas specific. I've fired of an email to the 3D-DirectL list and will post any ideas for solutions here.
Cheers,
Dale

Well, no REAL words of wisdom from the list, although the sugeestion that its some sort of wierd texture problem seem to be valid. Replacing the blue metal texture of the filing cabinet draw with a flat color (but leaving it on the face plate) and insto presto the draw is seemably visible again at all angles. I still cant see any valid reason this would happen, but at least its a workaround.

I would post a pic, but 3D canvas crashed on my laptop just as I had almost finished repairs hehe. Oh for gateway to update their drivers Wink So I still am to redo the work again. Perhaps using less objects for the draw might have worked also...but I wanted different parts to have different textures, so my hands seemed tied.

Cheers all, and thanks for your help Richard
