Hello,
I seem to be runing in to a little problem with the sw3d export on my little filing cabinet I'm building. When I export my file and it has an animation attached to one of the draws of the cabinet, the cabinet gets rotated 180 degrees about the y axis. If I dont have an animation on the object, the draw is oriented correctly.

is there something I'm doing wrong perhaps? I've atached a picture showing the behavior and my scenes hierarchy just in case thats the problem.
Thanks for any help.
Cheers
Dale

I should add that both versions look correct in 3dcanvas.

Can you send me the 3DC file and resulting w3d file so that I can have a look? (submissions@amabilis.com).

I had a look at the file and I think I know a work-around: The drawers should be children of the dresser.

It appears that objects with animation need to be children of stationary objects (I don't know if this applies to skeletal objects or not - I don't think so). I looked at what I use to export this data and it appears to "me" that this is a Shockwave 3D issue. There is something odd about the "child of scene" data that requires inversion of the Z direction of the Transformation matrix. It really is strange. I have never seen anything like it. I can only assume it is a bug of some sort in Shockwave 3D.

Fortunately there is always an easy work around: Make animated objects children of stationary objects. Note that the stationary objects can be so small as to be invisible (if necessary).

Excellent, glad you found a workaround Richard! I remember reading that 3dMax exports are all shifted on their axis...but I recal it being a y becomes z axis or something, rather than a rotation. Think it has anything to do with this?

I'll make the animation a child of the static cabinet and let you all know how it goes.

Cheers,
Dale

This is probably something else. I know what the YZ issue would be.

I really do think it is a Shockwave 3D issue. There may be something that can be done in 3DC to automate the work-around. I'll have a look for the next version.

I got kind of the same thing.  I made 4 separate text models and placed them in my scene and am going to fly through to each model.  When I exported it two of the models were 180 off.  I'll check more to see if anything is funning in the naming of the models or groups.

All 4 models are a child of another model.

Thanks,

Marty
