well I made a little progress, I have my wagon model imported into 3dc, joined a lot of parts, and renamed bo##, bo##wh** etc etc
exports to RS as a IGS file file. If I import the IGS back to 3DC the group names are intact, but all parts have been named object. I did get a wheel set into TS at one stage, So what have I missed pse NZTS Workshops Bringing the old NZR into the 21st Century, one polygon at a time Foundation Member Train Simulation New Zealand (TSNZ) http://tsnz.co.nz NZTS Railway Workshops http://www.workshops.tsnz.co.nz RailNZ fansite http://www.railnz.co.nz |

Ok after all day nearly on importing one wagon, I all but give up.
I have the wagon in asset Preview and I can get the wagon into RS, BUT the moment I try and place the wagon on the rail, the wagon disappears , like poof gone, anyone got a clue what I have missed NZTS Workshops Bringing the old NZR into the 21st Century, one polygon at a time Foundation Member Train Simulation New Zealand (TSNZ) http://tsnz.co.nz NZTS Railway Workshops http://www.workshops.tsnz.co.nz RailNZ fansite http://www.railnz.co.nz |

Have you set up the right info for the bogies?

The IGS format is essentially one object per group. There is nothing in the IGS format that would allow the preservation of object names. So, any model imported from IGS will produce an object name of "object". It's not critical since it is the group names (or custom group field values) that matter.
Unfortunatley I don't know the answer to why the wagon disappears. I know the process up until the asset editor, but no further. |

Hi Peter
I too have had many problems... here's how I worked around them Export your wagon model from canvas Copy the IGS file into the example wagon and rename it as the original example igs (backup tho) Run it it through... go to the game and you should see your wagon when you select example wagon.. Now copy and replace the bogies in example wagon with your own flavor.. if it still works all well and good if not compare the example and your own bogie files Once you get it up on its own bogies you can Put in the name you want displayed in... its the one that starts "english" that is used And you're all done and dusted PS you must also copy your textures over to example wagon textures folder.. If its a standard wheel base type wagon.. just paste your Geopcdx file into a similar "default" wagon, rename as per the original and put your texures in its folder.. should work straight away Hope it helps Sly |

Except the fact that the value of mass. front pivot, rear pivot and so on aren't all the same for all the wagon of the world |

Thanks team, with your combined help I have at least two my NZ wagons in RS now, Still got couplers etc to try and add.
Now next question, how can I alias a texture file and share it between folders. Many my wagons use the same common texture for wheels etc, seems pointless repeating it in every release. so can one have a COMMON folder, a bit like TS uses a common SOUND and a common CAB folders.
