I've been busy making changes to the Train Simulator Wizard so that it supports Rail Simulator.

So far, I've made all the visual changes required to separate MSTS functions from Rail Simulator functions. For me that's the least interesting part.

I hope to have a new version out in about a week or so that will:

1) export to Rail Simulator format as well as MSTS (based on an option)
2) generate animation for Rail Simulator steam engines (as it does currently for MSTS)
3) automatically name objects using the the Rail Simulator conventions (stored as a custom group field)
4) export with the generated Rail Simulator names
5) produce a report useful for creating blueprints for the exported object.

At some point I might start creating blueprints, but that is a ways off, and will depend on how much interest there is. I think if the information is available in a convenient form, then will likely do the job for a while.

Yes it's already excellent to have some report to be able to update values in the blueprints.

Then it's not difficult to update the blueprints starting from those provided in the sample electric engine, the sample steam engine and the wagon tutorial by ianm42.

It's slow going, but I'm making progress. I probably have another day's work before the upgraded wizard for Rail Simulator is done.

Unfortunately, the wizard won't do as much for Rail Simulator as it does for MSTS. At least not initially.

On a side note, I've ordered Trainz, and hope to have the wizard exporting to it in a few weeks.

I'm not sure when Rail3D and BVE will be done. I'd like it to be soon, but I can't say for certain.

I got side-tracked working on MSTS and other things, but I'm back working on the Train Simulator Wizard.

Features of the wizard:

1) converts materials to use custom material fields, for both MSTS and Rail Simulator.

I must admit that my translations are not particularly sophisticated, but they allow models to be loaded into Rail Simulator looking correct, which is the main poiint.

I've posted details of the MSTS changes in the MSTS forum.

2) automatically name objects using the the Rail Simulator conventions (stored as a custom group field)

3) exports to both Rail Simualtor and MSTS

4) exports to the correct Rail Simulator folders and tells you where it exported to.

5) finds and converts textures automatically

6) deletes compiled versions of exported files so that everything is recompiled when you right click on your exported file and say "export". The rail simulator "export" function tries to be smart and only compile those things that have changed. Unfortunatey it doesn't work properly. So, I have to delete all it has compiled to make sure that it does things right.

That's about it. Now, I just have to produce a report of the export and the wizard changes are done.

I decided not to produce a report directly from the wizard. Instead I expanded the Scene Details plug-in to include everything that I think is needed. Hopefully I got everything.
