There's definitely some odd stuff happening here. The requrement for more than 4 points is an interesting one.

Did you had some time to see if something can be done to improve shadow without having to tip some face in order to have this needed 5th point?

When I have to tip faces, the result is 4 faces instead of 1 for each face tiped. Not very good for FrameRates.
