Richard,
Myself, sad27 and GenisisMan have all been trying to get a simple primative cube to display correct shadowing in Rail Simulator and have failed to do so. http://amabilis.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/50410947331/m/71110843341 http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic.php?f=234&t=80178&p=962032#p962032 However kevmt is managing to achieve the desired result. The actual issue causing the problem seems to have been identified by steampsi (developer of the Blender exporter) which is to do with the direction of the normals at the corners/points. http://home.exetel.com.au/randomsoftware/railsim/tutorials/shadows_001.html One other variable in all this is the version of 3DC being used. I'm using Trainworks 7.1.2 (and had same problem with 7.1.1.3) whilst kevmt is using Pro. I can't speak for sad27 or Genisisman, but maybe they will post to confirm their versions. I'm also exporting via the file / export / IGS route (ie not using the wizard). Your input/comments would be welcome. |

Darn! It would seem (unless I'm missing something) that there is no direct relationship between success or failure and 3DC flavour or version.
It really does seem to come down to Kevin's genius (as his recent loco releases testify to) against the rest of us being mere mortal! So where to from here? |

don't know if this has any effect but I did use merely primitives only altered by dragging faces and edges then I merged (boolean) them into one object............ and it is a very basic shadow
Previous attempts after using chamfer and extrude were a total disaster as was duplicating my object and resizing Sly |

Probably more likely to be down to Kevin's Guinness You don't need to merge, you can just put all shadow objects into one group. Its also possible to some basic editing on them. I'll post a picture of one of my shadow models later today, though not sure if that will help? Cheers, Kevin |

I'm not sure if this is of any use, but this is the shadow model for the 3F "Jinty" loco that I released a few days ago. Cheers, Kevin |
