I try and try ... .
The sub objects did not appear (as scenery, passenger car, engine) in the asset-manager and simulation. If i import the IGS-file all is here and looks good.
I have installed the Railsim + Upgrade and 3DC 7.1.2..

Don't worry, its not just you, its happened to me and others. And doesn't seem just related to number of objects. I have posted about this in the top thread about the release of 7.1.2. However, I have found that it sometimes 'fixes' itself, so keep trying.

Cheers

Hi

I have found if you export and choose the export with basic distance levels option what you have described happens to me I just export without any options.

I've reported this to Kuju. It has to do with the number of groups in a project. It's not totally clear to me, but it seems that there is a restriction of 24 groups, not just sub-groups. This is covered in the help file, I think.

It's really true. sometimes it fixes itself.

I don't have so much groups (only main, bo1+2, 4xwheels, panto1+2, 1-2xlight. (Is 24 for all the LOD's together?)

But maybe maybe I found something:
Export with the wizard is not good if in one custom group field the name is 1_1000_light_fwdtail - then only the main-object appears.
without the 1_1000_ : in the preview all object are visible, and in the game too.

And in the Asset Editor always save, export first. I think the preview does not always convert the file new.

Excuse my English!

Yes, that's probably correct. If you name your groups using the Rail Simulator standard, 3D Canvas will assume you want to name them yourself and not re-name the group. If you only do this for one group and not all groups, it could cause problems for you.

Just for the record, I too am having this problem. My object is a very simple building - 2 rectangluar blocks so 1 Main object and 1 sub-group.
I'm going to try the option of no distance levels as per earlier post as see if it makes a difference

Maybe the problem is related to LODs.
So far I didn't use LODs and never got lost objects unless I have too many groups.

I've had objects disappear once, but this was becasue I went over the 24 group max. Once I reduced the number of groups, it was ok.
I do use Lods, but I never use any sort of "1-1000-" prefix on my parts and let Canvas automatically create the LODs. I do occasionally use the "_LOD_x" suffix after a part, if I particularly want to keep that part in a certain LOD.

I wrote the above comment whilst using V 7.1.1.3 (I think), since switching to V 7.1.2 I have the disappearing parts problem quite regularly. I've much less then 24 groups in the model so it's not that thats causing it. Have to do a lot of fiddling to get them to reappear. I've also noticed that shadows seem trickier to make in th latest version.

Hmmm... I wonder what's happened. When you re-import the IGS file are all of the objects there? I can't work on this quite yet, but when I do, I'll need some samples. It could be a naming issue. In version 7.1.2 3D Canvas won't re-name objects that have been named using the Rail simulator naming conventions. This can definitely cause problems.

you are right. thats too a possibility for the problem
1. I have a model where some parts I have give a name in RailSim-Custom field (bo01, bo02,...). some I leave blank.
2. Export with Wizard. ... only the main-object appear in the RS Preview.
3. import the .IGS file: I see some objects have the same name: 1_1000_group.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
4. I give all the objects a name in the Railsim custom field
5. All objects are visible in the RS Preview.

Hi JAW

Congrats you found the problem .... well done

A bit more experimenting seems to suggest that the problem is actually that the names in the railsim custom field need to be all the same.
I have been having a problem with one particular component that would not export if it was in its own group, when I checked it had the name "building" in the RailSim custom box.
making this blank (the same as all other components cured this).

So all blanks is ok.

I also found that if you use the grouping\ make sibling of the "Main" it inserts a name in the RailSim Custom Field, and its the last type of export you used with the wizzard.

Well done.. if its ok with you I will post the news over at UKTrainSim (with fullcredit)

I'm not sure if this is the same problem I see. I don't use the export wizard for setting up and exporting my models, and name things for myself, yet still occasionally get a similar problem.

If I reimport the .igs file back into canvas then it shows that the model has not been exported correctly from canvas.

I usually solve the problem by taking a group and combining it with another, or taking a group out of the heirarchy, exporting the model and then bringing the group back intot he hieracrhy. I am well below the maximum 24 groups allowed with railsim.

Cheers,
Kevin

Hi Kev

I don't use the wizzard for loco's either, but I have used it for buildings,

I have just done multiple repeats of the test..

Pick an object and enter something in the Railsim box... if all other objects have empty boxes it will not go through the asset editor.
Remove same name and it goes through OK..

Could do with someone else trying it

just thought.. this may only be for objects that have Default Railsim names and sit in their own group.

All my problems have been with things like

Shadow_Engine
PrimaryDigit_1
Softshade_loco

Cured it for me Smile

Hmmmm...this is definitely useful information.I'm not quite ready to get going on this yet,but should be soon.

If anyone has something that simply doesn't export, they can send it to support@amablis.com and I can have a look in detail when I get going on this.

Done some more checking... it is not specific to Objects that use RailSim naming conventions.

It seems pretty straight forward.. If it doesn't export chances are you have an erronous entry in a Custom RailSim box.

How it gets there seems to be a knock back from the improvements made in 7.1.2 ?... where your last entries remain in the export wizzard.

Until JAW found this, the only cure seemed to be keep moving things around in the hierarchy and it probably would eventually work.

This is because only if you move an object to be sibling of the main does it add the last used RailSim Type, and this may be session specific, so chances are you eventually overwrite the Entry.

Please consider keeping the entries in the wizzard, I don't think its any big deal now we know where to look if we get a problem.

To test for yourself

Using the wizzard export a simple cube as a building.

Go back to the cube and declare it as "main" as in a loco
Place a cylinder as a child
Using the file menu export the IGS as a "loco"... after after blueprinting this should show OK.. Import IGS all should be OK.

To initiate the error

Select the cylinder and make a sibling of main
If you look in the properties you should see that it has "building" as your erronous entry in the railsim custom box.
It will make no difference if you put it back to a child....... the entry stays.

Export this IGS and then reimport to check and you should find that there is no Cylinder present.

I have not actually tried the importing back in, I blueprinted the items as a check and can recreate the error at will.

Thankyou JAW again Smile
