Hi,I am making my first model of a class 20 diesel loco, but i am not sure,on the best way,to make the roof, for this type of loco.
Also,i would like to know, how the roof is textured,in sections, along the roof, the roof is a blue colour, with pannels along the roof.
It is the roof section, what is holding me up,from nearly completing the model.
I would be very gratefull,if anyone could help me out with these two problems.
Many thanks,Howard.

The best way to approach this would be to use Paul Gausden's MSTS cab builder plug-in. Its very good on cabs that have a curved roof like the EE Class 20. Simply take measurements from your plan, input them into the various sections and your cab will be created very quickly.

You may need to alter the thing after you've created the basic shape as I noticed that the prototype cab becomes narrower mid way along its y axis until it joins the roof.

When it come to texturing the roof, use the UV map function after control clicking the faces to select all of the roof faces and then adjust your texture accordingly. The picture below is just the default entries and you may wish to increase the number of faces on the roof to smooth it out a little.

Hi,Vulcan, thanks for the info,on the roof and tuxtures,it is a very awkward loco to do,as regarding the roof,it is the first time,i have made my own model,i was not sure,on the roof, bit,and the how to apply the texture,to the roof, the side bits are no problem,as they are flat.
I am very gratefull, vulcan, for the info,i will now try and get the roof completed.
Many thanks,Howard.

Cabs on diesels look simple, but when you examine them closely they are all very different and getting it right can make or break a model. Best of luck and let me know how you go with it.

Good to see some more EE on the way. Smile

applying textures to the roof
- make sure you are using the default orientation mode
- move to a point vertically above the roof, looking down
- select the texture
- fill with the fill tool on the right (or the fill operation if you have just selected the roof faces)
