When I first opened my new 3DC, it was set with a single view window (7a?) However today I decided I would like to use the 4-window view (don't know number) and that worked... However, when I attempted to return to the single view window I received the error message: 3DC Editport 7a - Runtime error '0' and was forced to shut down.
I have made several attempts to set the view to single window ... even starting from different settings but receive the same error message every time. I don't know if this is a bug, or some mistake I have made.. This message has been edited. It is definitely a bug, somewhere. Is this Windows Vista?
I think if you uninstall 3D Canvas and re-install it should make it so 3D Canvas will run with one view again. If not, there are other ways. |

I'm sorry I neglected to mention my operating system .. it is Windows XP-pro. I will try re-installing tonight when I get home. Thanks for your quick response. Although I can continue working without the single-pane view.. I would like everything to be functioning properly. I have not reinstalled before.. I'm guessing that I must first uninstall? ... Ok I reinstalled, and in the process effected a repair of 'unrecoverable error #429' by following the instructions for that. However, in spite of the reinstall, I still get the Runtime error '0' when attempting to open the single-pane view. So... I await further instructions/suggestions from you. ^_^ This message has been edited. Unfortunately the "fix" is not so simple. What you need to do is this:
1) Click on the start menu and choose "run" 2) Type "regedit" and enter. Regedit modifies the Windows Registry. It's a bit like Windows Explorer, but instead of folders you have "keys" 3) Look through the keys for "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\VB and VBA Program Settings\3D Canvas 7". 4) Right-click on it and choose "delete". Answer Yes. That should do it. Now to find the cause of the problem. It could be graphics card driver related. It may be worth checking with the manufacturer of your computer, or your graphics card to see if an update is available. They are free to download. Actually, it might be worth doing this before doing what I suggested with Regedit. |

Thank you.. my next step will be to check the drivers. It's an ATI but not a terribly new one. Sorry can't quote the model no. because I'm not at home. However, because it works well for heavily graphic Uru online, Photoshop CS2, Illustrator, and Painter 9.5, I assumed it was working fine. .. however, it is good to check, 3D Canvas probably makes different demands. I have xp-pro as I mentioned, but not the SP2 pack. When I installed that some time back it crippled my computer, so I went back to the restore point, and have avoided it ever since. I only use FireFox as my browser, and I do have a router and good security stuff. I've been into regedit, but it's not my favorite thing to do.. bit nerve-wracking for a non-techie like me, O_o but if necessary.. I'll grit my teeth ;-] BTW I am working on the whale tutorial.. it is so much fun! I've always loved modeling in clay.. and this is starting to feel very similar ^_^ ... I looked up the Radeon 9250 and it appears one must install new software and remove older ATI software and then there are all kinds of warnings and caveats .... This seems way beyond my ability to do. I really don't want to confuzzle the whole works.. Here is what I have: Radeon 9250 Chip Type: RADEON 2950 Series 0x5960 This message has been edited. Installing the driver is just a matter of double-clicking what you download. At least that's what I always do.
The problem is that I think it may require Service Pack 2. You might have to get a slightly older driver that doesn't require Service Pack 2. The Regedit change should work to get you back to one view. |

Before I ever tried any of those things, I arrived home on Friday evening and found a very sick computer. I tried a reboot, but it just didn't work.. so now it's being looked at.. hope it can be fixed, or I will be out shopping.. and it is extremely difficult to buy a new pc without vista... (if it is even possible). I notice that vista has problem with most of the software I use, so lots of work ahead, I see. I will be out of touch for a while.. ... 5 days later: Well, I'm back.. my old puter has been fixed. Actually, the techie said it fixed itself - good ol' Norton - and it seems to function fine. I removed the registry folder 3d Canvas 7 as you suggested, and when I tried to reopen 3d Canvas, it reinstalled. It now seems to work fine and the view options appear to work as they should. However, during the reinstall, the following message appeared - "could not access C:\WINDOWS\System32\dx7vb.dll because it is protected by Windows". I clicked to continue, and installation proceeded. Seems to work fine. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Butterpaw, Butterpaw I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes they all gang up on me at once! |

I found drivers and they did not require service pack 2... however, now that I have installed them I am having problems with 3d Canvas. If I need to minimize it, (say to look up a reference) when I return to it, I find it has become unresponsive, and must close it.
Do I now need to reinstall 3dC .. again? Butterpaw I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes they all gang up on me at once! |

Same error, "3D editport 7a with runtime error 0".
I have 3DC pro and O.S. is Windows XP,sp2. This error occured while doing the Whale tutorial ( again ) and was in viewport 7b ? when I clicked on "commit" smoothing, prior to the texturing phase. When I tried reverting to viewport 7a to check the rendering, the error occured.I could still select viewports 7b,c,d.e and f, but all attempts to get back to 7a were fruitless. I have successfully un-installed and re-installed 3DC which has cured the error. I thought I would just file this report for the records. Cheers, Fender |

I had the smae problem a few weels ago. reinstalling did not fix my problem. I had three different versions of 3DC installed. Problem was corrected by uninstalling all three then cleaning the registry. After reinstalling version 7.0.2.2, I haven't had any more problems.
