Hi.

I think this is the worst kind of computer error, the kind that makes no logical sense. The Windows kind of error.

So tonight I was working on a model, doing a test render, everything was going along just peachy. Then suddenly I tried to render and this error showed up.

"errors occurred while Raytracing. It may be that your raytracer is not configured properly or 3d canvas is having difficulty finding associated textures. Textures should be in the same folder as your 3d canvas scene or in the 3d canvas media\textures folder."

I have uninstalled 3DC, reinstalled, uninstalled POVRAY and reinstalled. And still nothing has changed.

Erm, help?

Also is it normal for POVRAY to display objects that were set to invisible? Because that started happening just before that error.

Thanks in advance.
Reddkryten.

It's a problem that I've had myself. For me, it only happens with some models. It seems to not be associated with polycounts because I have a model I'm working on at over 15000 poly's and it renders just fine. It even renders when there's blank, untextured items so I'm lost as to why the problem is happening.
I've never had POVRay not render invisible items. I'm not sure how it links to 3DC but I'm pretty sure it renders anything in the model.

I'm not a POVray user but this sort of message is quite common in other apps.

One thing to check out is, is the model fully textured. If you have an unseen face that is untextured this could still cause the error.
POV may be looking for a texture for this unseen face(s)

Try creating a small 32x32 texture, load it into 3DC, select the model and run the Fill Untextured plugin.

Try the render again and see if this corrects the problem.
If it does you've got some unseen faces somewhere on the model that where untextured.

Hi.

I tried using fill untextured. Same error.

Then I got rid of all textures and it rendered...but I want my textures back!!!

I love computers, something that worked perfectly yesterday does nothing today. Grr.

Thanks.

Hi.

Thanks for the tip about Gile[s] (what is the [] for, why not just a normal s?).

Yesterday I was looking at one of Bazza's tutorials, extruding a scene I think and saw a scene go from looking like something out of doom or Wolfenstein 3d to almost photo realistic.

Guess I'm off to learn how to use Gile[s] now.

Thanks.

I think I know what's causing the error, but not what caused the cause.

I exported my scene as a .pov file and attempted to render it in the standalone application.

When it came to the texture, the file said MAPLE.BMP, PovRay couldn't handle that. So I added in the path name and it cleared up.

So 3DC has forgotten how to add in the path, no idea why, but that's what is happening.

Another strange thing is, I only used one texture, but in the .pov file another file was listed ToolStore.gif. I don't have a file called Tool or Store on my computer so I had to create it. No idea where that came from.

When using PovRay to render in 3DC you need to have all the model's textures in either the Media folder or the models folder. 3DC will not automatically write the filepath, so PovRay cannot find the textures. Keeping them all in a folder with your model is the best way to do it. That way you will know where your textures are instead of having to look for them. Also you need to open PovRay and under "OPTIONS/Script I/O Restrictions" Select No Restrictions and check Permit Read/Write in current directory. Under GUI-Extensions check Use Extentions. That should cure any rendering problems with PovRay.

There were some problems with rendering that I believe are fixed now.
