I've noticed it a few times now.

Some (new) models over about 7000 cause 3dc 7.0.1 to start using 100% cpu.
It functions, but only very slowly.

Does anyone else have this problem - the sample model is here:

I downloaded the sample and 3DC was extremely slow in loading it. In fact, I never saw the model. I only saw a black void for the scene and thought the program was locked up. I attempted to close 3DC and after about a minute it did close, indicating it was just running very slow.

Thanks Mike, it's not just me then.

I've seen it happen with a couple of models now.

Is it 7000 triangles or points?
Do you think the problem is only with 3DC 7.x ?

No such problem with 3DC 6.6.5.13 so far with my current model
4502 faces
4415 points
8790 triangles

I couldn't test your model as I uninstalled 3DC 7 (many updates in a short time).

I had the same problem with the latest version 7.0.1.1. It took forever to load and all I got was the scene hierarchy, no model in the window. All I could do was open the tree entries and wait. After about 10-15 seconds the tree opened for that entry. Also on version 6.6.5.15 it notified me that it had been been prepared in a later version of 3DC and wouldn't load at all. Perhaps something happened after version 6.6.5.13 and is also the problem in version 7.0.1.1

Some more bugs for Richard to chase.

The 3DC file format changed from 6.6 to 7.x

More info on this problem.

It seems like it is the complex extrude object that has caused the problem.

It has several faces made up of more than 100 vertices.

Loading the model, selecting the extrude object (first group) and running the triangulate operation fixed the 100% cpu problem.

Over to you Richard... Smile

----------------------------------------------

You can "downgrade" a model version by exporting the DirectX hierarchy (right click option on main group)
