They are, Vista IS the latest DirectX

Did you try copying the D3DRM.DLL from Windows XP to Vista?

I won't be updating the 3D Canvas install until I have a copy of Vista.

Yes, this was trying to start the software, i had to copy the DLL in order to install it.

Unfortunately, there isn't really anything I can do until I get Vista.

Someone had success with copying the right DLLs over. I'll have to try to duplicate what he did.

I've released a beta that I hope resolves the installation problem. Check the announcements forum.

So far, the only problems that I have found with Vista are driver related. I updated my driver and they were resolved.
