this is an odd one because it isn't 100% repeatable.
Version 6.601 Pro In order to see the edges and faces while modeling with smoothing turned on (level 2 in this case), I've found if one paints the object slightly transparent, say 30%, its easier to see edges, etc., to select them. However SOMEtimes, when I paint the object semi-transparent, faces won't select. Edges and points seem to, but not faces. As I said, this seems to happen sometimes, but not always. I can't really think of why it might be true only some of the time, and other times I can select faces in this way. The objects were handled no differently, and there was only one object in the scene. Meanwhile, when this oddness occurs, if I paint the object opaque again, I can select the faces where I could not at 30% transparency. I'm not sure if this is a bug or its supposed to e that way, but noting the intermittency, I posted here. |

correction:
I CAN select faces on a transparent object, but the outline doesn't light up (outline bluish on my set normally, but no highlight if object is transparent or semitransparent). Operations work just fine, just have to remember what was highlighted, or color the object solid. |

I've just tried out your tip about using transparencies and found this same problem on my system.

Ahhh... that makes sense. I've been puzzling about this ever since you mentioned it. That's an easy fix and I'll add it to the next patch.

I spoke too soon. I'll have to think some more on this.
What's happening is that the non-translucent highlighting is rendered first and then the translucent object is rendered second. With low levels of translucency the highlight is not paticularly visible. If you increase the translucency of the object you should see the highlighting better. Richard |
