With my main PC in for repair I had to rescue my old one from the attic.
Specs...
AMD Athlon clocked at 1 Mhz
Nvidia Riva TNT2 Model 64 Pro
512 megs of system memory
Windows ME edition.

When I tried to install 3DC v 6.5.1.0 I got the dreaded...
error #-2147221503 "Unable to configure DirectX ensure most recent version of DirectX is installed and Video card drivers are up to date.
Despite having the lasted Dx and graphics card drivers up to date.
No matter what I tried I couldn't get 3DC to install.

In the end I dug out the original disc with the first version of 3DC I ever installed v 4.23.
This installed without a problem...yipeee.

So I uninstalled this version, selecting NO when asked if I wanted to remove certain files that may be shared with other apps.
Then I tried v 6.5.1.0 again and it installed without a hitch.

Feeling quite pleased with myself I tried to install v 7.0.2.2, this installed OK...yipee again.
I've tested both versions and so far haven't come across any problems.

So from all this it would seem something has changed with the installation between v 4.23 and v 6.5.
Don't know if all this is of any help Richard....maybe not, but I could let you have the original v 4.23 files if you don't have them.
The only problem is the total file size is just over 18 megs so can't mail this size of file and the dvd drive is shot on this machine.
Maybe MSN messenger if you use it.

Actually, yes, I sometimes recommend this solution to people.

If you can give me the list that would be helpful. But it's hard to say specifically what difference causes the problem. If I knew that... that would be great.

I should have my main PC back tomorrow...the guy who repaired it had to re-install windows so I have to install all my software again.

I'll install v 4.23 first and make a note of the files I'm asked if I want deleting.

I could break up the 18 meg folder contents into say 3 smaller chunks and let you have these if you wish.

I've made some changes to the install in 7.1.1.0, which I hope will resolve this. There's no way to know for certain unfortunately.
