Back To Work On FBX and 3MF

It looks like 10.2 is on track, so I’ll be getting to work on importing and exporting. In particular FBX and 3MF. The FBX exporter is there, but the importer isn’t. 3MF is entirely new to 3D Crafter.

100s of Icons and Screen Captures

I think I just finished updating the last of the icons and screen captures in 3D Crafter, the help, and tutorials. I think there were hundreds. I NEVER want to do that again, so I hope Windows doesn’t change a whole lot anytime soon.

No bug is too small

I’m determined to get 3D Crafter as close to perfect as possible. No bug, glitch or typo is too small to report. And, you can do it 100% anonymously. Click “report a bug” on the top right of this page.

Can’t Stop Adding Things

Well, 10.2 is supposed to be “done”, but I’m sneaking in a few changes. The first is I have added undo/redo for the Op Adjust tool. It really should have had it all along, but I couldn’t figure out how to do it. Layers make undo/redo hard. Also, I’ve made a rather large change to the components panel. The goal is to simplify things and tie in to the new “auto operations panel”. The old design was conflicting with that. The short is that the tabs are now gone, and you will only be able to enable individual sub-panels. Hopefully […]

Help Updates

I’ve been going through the help file page by page updating images and text. I wrote a program to go through the HTML and identify all links and images so I can confirm they are correct. It turns out there are nearly 400 images. I’ve updated over 100 of them, but there are still many that need updating. The fully updated help and tutorials should be available late next week.

Error Handling

I happened to come across a method that should reduce the number of 3D Crafter crashes considerably. I’m quite excited about it. The downside is that it required making 1000s of code changes. 99% of them were automated, which reduces the risk, but the non-automated are a bit scarier. There may be some short term issues, but I’m certain that in the end it will result in a huge decrease in crashes.

20 years and 7+ Languages

3D Crafter has been around roughly 20 years now and I just realized today that there are 7 languages + html involved. There are only 2 language classes C and BASIC, but 7 dialects: C#, C++, JavaScript, C, Visual Basic, Visual Basic.NET and VBScript.

Updating the Help File

I’ve been working the last few days on one of my least favourite jobs: updating documentation. It’s an unpleasant job, but important.

3D Crafter 10.2 Available

3D Crafter 10.2 is now available. The 3DC Extensions have been updated as well. You’ll need the latest version for 3D Crafter 10.2. They are available on the downloads page.
