Wooden Shield

Nice work for your first Model. Heres something to try to add to your next one.. or this one… try adding a bumpmap to the wood texture….I dont have a paint program to make them, but the ones I do have really make a texture life-like. Great stuff!! Keep on modelling!

A simple wooden shield with steel trim and grip. Straps are made of rawhide. This is one of the first models I ever made with 3DC.

A couple of comments if I may ?

I like the rawhide how did you do that ?
The hand grip looks too small.

So are you going to put a shield into the challenge ?

Its been a while but I made the straps with just some cubes and a few extrudes and two smooth operations (standard block model). Then I unwrapped them and applied a reddish brown color to most of the unwrap. Since the edges of the straps are somewhat rounded, I put just a little biege towards the sides to create the effect. Nothing special.

And yes the hand grip is probably too small but once it was all done I didn’t have to heart to remake the whole texture for the back of the shield and increase it’s size.

I don’t think it’d be a good candidate for the competition because its not really designed for a game. It uses like 5 different textures instead of one big unwrap. Like I said it was one of the first models I made so it was a learning experience <!– s;) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_wink.gif" alt="" title="Wink" /><!– s;) –>

i too like the leather handle.

hey you know what… the shield looks like the front of an old beer keg-the wooden kind, or a barrel… just a thought-try making a beer keg with this, and put a tap on it too. this is what i saw the first time i looked at this model. very good though-especially the handle part.
