Hello
I have an issue where my install of 3DC 9.1 will not work. I cannot use any of the functions, as simple as drag and drop a primitive square. I can import a .dst file, covert a 3dc file and they display on the scene pane but as far as starting my own new scene project of drag and dropping a primitive onto the scene…no chance, the only thing i can do is scroll the scene in and out with the mouse, none of the functions working at all.
I log onto my desktop as administrator, have uninstalled / installed 3DC completely 3 times and the result is the same. There are no errors at all when installing each time….
Any suggestions much appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Gordon.

Hi Gordon,
I think the last release was 9.2 – maybe try that one ??? Are you new to using 3DC or have you had it work on other machines in the past ? The developer is MIA – so I don’t think we’re going to get any REAL help… I can vouch for the fact that 9.2 does work with Windows 7 x64 – as I have it installed on several of my machines and other than a few quirks and random crashes – it does appear to function…

Scott

Hello Scott,
Thank you for your quick reply and input. Yes, it doesn\’t help when the developer goes on walkabout…I had sent an email as well to support because I paid the Pro License?
I have installed and tried versions 9.2, 9.1 and 8.2…..all with the same result. I used version 8.2 before on my laptop, running Win XP SP3 and it worked a treat. The laptop died suddenly so I got this new desktop built with Win 8 Pro and until now haven\’t had any issues with software installs.
I am at a loss, maybe it\’s Win 8 and the Admin part of it….who knows!!!!
Cheers,
Gordon.

Hi Gordon,
I’ve been avoiding 8 like the plague – nothing but poor reviews – I’ve got 3DC on three Win 7 x64 machines…. See my post about the animation camera… Maybe it’s something similar… Try running in Admin and in XP Compatibility mode and see if that helps… What I did is in the animation thread… I have yet to touch an 8 box – sorry…
Regards,
Scott

Hello Scott,
Success at last….I converted the .msi file to a .exe and then installed the .exe as admin and would you believe all is working just fine. I did the install on 9.1 so after I have a little play I will upgrade to 9.2 and see how that goes.
Thanks again for your input, much appreciated..
Gordon

Hey guys. I took the plunge and went totally Windows 8 recently and am getting used to it. I had the need to modify some of my earlier 3DC models, so your notes in this thread have helped me greatly. I got 3DC installed (with its usual quirks) and am using it successfully in a very limited way so far. The .msi to .exe converter idea was great!

Andrew,
Glad that some info was of a help…I am not a guru with computers but ” suspected ” the Admin install of my 3DC may have been my problem as I never had any issues with .exe installs of software with my Win 8. Thought I would give it a try as I wanted all installs on my computer to be done as is and it turned out to be a success….
BTW….9.2 installed okay as well, now to get back to hang of using 3DC again.
Cheers,
Gordon.
