Which 3D card?

andnbsp; andnbsp; I have the Geforce 2 mx 400 32 meg…Having a 64meg video card might be worth paying the extra cash. My next card will be a 64 meg card. Think about not only now but as games getting more graphically intense more memory is better. Just my opinion..

Well, I think it’s about time I got a new 3D card for my PC, but I’m not sure what make or model would work best for my PC and 3DC. I don’t have loads of cash, so a relatively cheap card is what I’m looking for. I have win98, should I upgrade to XP first? Thanks in advance.

I found my XP vs Me benchmarks (this is with a Radeon based card):

Open 3DC
Me: 8.5 seconds
XP: 3.5 seconds

Drag and Drop a Surface object
Me: 18 seconds
XP: [2 seconds – pretty much instantaneous

And it is not just loading that is faster, a number of other functions are much faster under XP than Me. Some of the load spead can be attributed to the fact that it was a andquot;freshandquot; install, but not the Drag and Drop issue.

I think it depends on what you currently have. I don’t see much reason for having a video card better than a GeForce2 MX or Radeon Value edition for the purposes of 3DC. But, having XP can make a large difference in the performance of 3DC.

andnbsp; andnbsp; Hi Dood3. I have a Geforce 2 mx 400. You can get those cheap around $50..However you should be able to get a Geforce 3 these days pretty cheap too. In fact I will prolly be upgrading myself soon.

Does it matter which make of GeForce I get? The cheapest that I have found online is for 79:

Leadtek GeForce2 MX-200 32Mb + S.TV.

But for 99,40, I can get:

MSI Geforce2 MX 400 64 Mb + S.TV.

Could you help me, please? Is it worth it paying 20 extra for the MX 400, or should I just go for the MX 200?
Oh yes, and I cannot find the Radeon Value edition anywhere, so I do not know its pricing.

Okay, thanks people <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>
