Version 8.1.3 won’t start up – error 91 (Resolved)

Update: Problem of startup error #372 went away when RS.com updated Railworks to version 104.5b. I did nothing myself. The error was there one minute, Railworks was updated through Steam, and another try on 3DC and it suddenly worked like a champ. Don’t know what the connection was, but it is interesting to note that the Railworks patch was to correct some problems in an update that came through a week earlier, which was about the time that I had problems with 3DC starting up. Thanks for your assistance.

Doug

I have been using the previous version 8.1 build with no problems, but after loading 8.1.3 over the older version I now get an error #91 when I start up the app. I have changed nothing in the system between the older and newer versions.

System= Vista 64
CPU = Intel Q6600 Quad Processor
GPU = XFX 8800GT, 512 mb VRAM, latest drivers
RAM = 8 GB
Application Usage = Rail Simulator (Railworks)

Any suggestions?

Doug

I usually see this error if there was a previous 8.1.* installed and it didn’t uninstall properly first.

I’d uninstall, delete the folders, then re-install (if you’ve not done so already)

Thanks

Did a complete removal and reinstalled 8.1.3.
Now I am getting a failed startup with the error note #372 (unrecoverable error).

Also, now that I have reinstalled, how do I apply my Pro upgrade? (assuming we get this working).

Did this system ever have 3DC 7 installed on it?

I’m still wondering if perhaps 3DC 8 won’t install on some systems if 3DC 7 is not installed.

When you uninstalled/reinstalled did you remove the 3DC folders from ‘My Documents’ and ‘Program files’? Normally you don’t need to, but in some strange cases it is necessary.

I had version 7 installed with PRO upgrade, then loaded 8.1.0, which worked OK, then loaded 8.1.3 over it. I didn’t remove anything in the process. Since then I have removed all 3DC programs using the Control Panel method, then I reinstalled 8.1.3. As mentioned in a PM, I discovered the 3DC log file under Documents, and it is reporting that the error (#372) is being caused by an out of date 3DCoperation.ocx file. Strange since the file in the system is dated 2/17/2010, which is the same date as 8.1.3. Need to find out why the system is confused.
