Unrecoverable Error #9

So the recovery feature failed?

Can you give me a description of the type of operations you were doing?

Richard

Just installed 5.5 to replace 5.08? downloaded last Friday. andnbsp; One and 1/2 hours into my work on a hip roof I attempted to UNDO a previous step and got the andquot;Unrecoverable Error #9) and lost all the work from this session. andnbsp; Please advise. andnbsp;Plenty of system memory (512megs of RAM). andnbsp;Did I do something incorrectly while adjusting one or more of the points????

Recovered the project upon restarting 3D LP but after another 15-20min got a Runtime Error …. andnbsp; andnbsp;suggesting I need to update my video drivers…. I have the latest drivers for my rather anemic video card ( possibly that is part of the problem) but I had been working for 1hr and a half prior to these issues developing. andnbsp;Any thoughts??? andnbsp;Upgrade my video card to 32 or 64 megs?

Thanks for the help andnbsp;*(and the quick response). andnbsp;Hopefully I won’t lose all my work. andnbsp;Hip roofs are problematic since you must first place the primitive structure. andnbsp;Extrude it to the correct perspect and then manipulate the points to draw it in. andnbsp;I tried the ALT + select method to marry the points together but that approach doesn’t work since they would be shifting in the same direction and I need to andquot;Pullandquot; those opposing points together to create the hip. andnbsp;I Have to manipulate 4 separate points in 4 planes to accomplish this. andnbsp;Maybe 3D LP (for Lite Pro???) doesn’t like so much tinkering with points. andnbsp; But, when building locomotives you certainly have to manipulate many times the 4 points I;m working with.
Thanks for the help and trouble shooting.

The andquot;most recentandquot; drivers are not necessarily the best drivers. The key is to look for a driver that is WHQL certified.

An error 9 is very likely the fault of 3DC. A very long negative error code (-32902920) may be either 3DC’s fault or the drivers.

Point moving is pretty basic and common stuff. I haven’t seen this sort of error, but 5.5 is relatively new so it may be that I haven’t come across it yet.

More memory on a video card is always a better thing. But virtually any recent NVIDIA or ATI card should work well with 3DC.

I did find once place where I could produce an unrecoverable error relating to point editing. The fix will be available in the next service release (5.5a). I’m not sure when it will be available.

The error occurs when point editing. It will happen if you select a point and then de-select it by ctrl-clicking on it.

This could also be the cause of the error 9 you received when undoing. I can’t say for certain though since I can’t reproduce that error.

If 3DC crashes it asks you the next time it is run if you want to recover your scene. There is nothing you need do except answer andquot;yesandquot;.

I’ll look into your issue with point shifting.

Attempting to adjust points at the peak of a hip roof and moving them inward toward the center of the roofline. andnbsp; I had previously moved several points to get the desired roof profile. andnbsp;this move didn’t look correct so I simply attempted to UNDO my last step and the program crashed. andnbsp; You mention recovery steps. andnbsp; The program didn’t give me time to execute any recovery steps even if I knew where they were. andnbsp; This is only my third day with 3D LP so forgive me if I simply screwed up!
