Two sets of bogie wheels on export to RW.

How I do it?: For the first time I always use the wizard, and then after that the new exporter by Paul Gausden. That’s my way.

Hi

I have a problem where I have two sets of bogie wheels when I export my wagon model to RW.
One set are stationary and the other animate.
No matter what I try, I cannot get the one animated set to appear without the static set.

It looks like the static wheels are part of the whole model. (which they are not)

Can anyone help me figure out what I’m doing wrong, it’s driving me nuts!

cheers

We will probably not be able to help without seeing a copy of your 3DC file or at least your hierarchy.

I was hoping someone knew of this or had this happen to them.
I’m trying from scratch and if I still get the same problem I’ll post the file and hierachy.

I’ve tried a released model from another source that is working and I get exactly the same thing happen.

Maybe it’s the blueprint or a problem with the exporter.

Cheers

I may have misunderstood your first post. I thought you had a set of bogie wheels showing up that were like ghosts (not part of the original model).

Now I think that you mean the model showed up correctly, but one set of wheels doesn’t animate.

If that is the case it is definitely a problem with the blueprint. (or you misnamed the static set of bogie wheels in the model)

I’ll explain..

I have exported 2 wagons with 2 axels, that’s 4 wheels on each wagon.
One wagon is new. (mine)
The other wagon is a released working model by Mike Simpson.

In railworks both wagons exhibit the same problem when exported to RW.

When the wagons are stationary there are 4 wheels but when they start moving I have 8 wheels on the wagons on the same axles. 4 static and 4 animated.

Hope that’s clearer.
I may have to create a video.

A very short [img:k6qyr4vo]http&#58;//cid-70813a1e7efd4b2e&#46;office&#46;live&#46;com/self&#46;aspx/Public/TwoWheels&#46;wmv[/img:k6qyr4vo]
Video
of the problem.

ok, how have you got the wheels named, Grouped and pivot points set?

are these wheels on a bogie? I.e 2 wheels per bogie?
Sorry can not download the video as I am back ob dial up net for a while.

Your video may be too short, I don’t see the problem. Could you install the free version of FRAPs and give us a longer look?

I’ve just confirmed the original model I made and exported using Blender works fine.

I use the same Blender model blueprint on the model exported from 3DC and it does not work.

I’ll make a longer video in wmv format so you don’t have to download it.

This model is by Mike Simpson (Thanks to Mike for the source)

Video

All I’ve done is export it.
You’ll need Silverlight to play the video or download it. File size is 6meg

Back to the drawing board. <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>

I have some released 4 wheel wagons in 3ft 6 and could pull out some files. With dialup could be a day or so to upload some place..
However I should add that my wheels and axles are one part, so I have two wheel sets per wagon. Also I add bogies to my 4 wheel wagons, usally just a single poly triangle, seems to help with running.

EDIT: I have stripped down one my wagons to just a frame and below. no textures etc. So the size is less that 1mb

Thanks Peter
I’ll try this one.

[Edit]I appreciate the file Peter but I just need a box on wheels to work.
This file is a bit beyond me at the moment.

Cheers mate,
Alex

Is the wheels / bogies hierarchy as in the attached file below (example w/ 4 wheels per bogie)?
What’s seems important are the group names (by looking at the samples provided on RW web site).

In the bogies / wheels recognition step, the wizard is renaming some groups. Maybe to rename them back properly?
I prefered to follow the RS/RW naming convention (without the LOD numbering which should be taken care of by the export) and skip the bogies / wheels recognition step.
