TSM import update

Richard,

The import mapping of 7.1.2 is now much improved and I’m not having the small mapping errors that I was having before. Thanks for sorting that. However, the import does not seem to recognise fully/correctly where tiling of textures has been done. I could send you some more sample for you to study if you would like.

Hi Richard,
I realise you are busy at the moment, but wondered if there is any update regarding the TSM to 3DC texture import? Thanks.

The long slence has been deafening! However, here is a copy of a note I sent to Big Peter of T.S.N.Z. :

Hi Peter,

I now have 3DC version 7.1.2. It works fine. As you have found, the pre-import TSM items must be split into parts – side, front,back.etc. Initially, I thought I would be smart and ‘select all’ and then ‘join parts’ in TSM prior to importing to 3DC, but this resulted in a mosaic of textures all over the model, i.e. windows on the wheels front up on the roof, etc.Once parts were split again the imported result is perfect. I think this is because TSM ‘blows’ the textures onto the model in a wrap fashion and 3DC texture application is more direct. Anyway, it works, so I am rapt out of my tree.

I thought I would post this as it could prove helpful to others with TSM – to – 3DC problems.

Sorry for the silence.

I did do some improvements to the import for 7.1.2. I’m not 100% certain what specifically needs to be done, if anything. I think it’s OK. But, I could be wrong.

Hi Richard,
Yes, as far as I can determine all is well. The ‘rule’ seems to be, if you created it in TSM and textured using ‘split parts’ i.e. side, top, front, rear ( this is quite often the case – with my models anyway ), then you must export it to 3DC in that state. The model will then import into 3DC with its correct texturing coordinates. I was holding back on getting 7.1.2 because I had heard of some problems with the TSM import. Whatever you have done to correct things has worked.I must credit you on your efforts and thank you.
