Trouble with 2048×2048 Textures in material pallette

I separated the inner and out faces and scaled the interior by 0.9999. The problem seems to be solved!

Thanks for the help

When I select a texture that is 2048×2048 it won’t appear in the preview box and when applied to the model won’t show either. Is there a limit on image size pixel-wise or memory-wise? 1024s and 512 etc show up fine. File is in .bmp format.

Could it be my laptop lacks the memory to use a texture that big? I have 512 of RAM in it.

I have another question to do with textures so I’ll group it in here.

What is causing this weird effect? I can’t find any extra polys, could it be the polys from one side intertwining with polys on the other? If so how can I fix it?

Thanks for any help, Regards, Jack

I tried to use 2048×2048 textures a while ago but I really don’t remember how it worked. However, You can map your model at 1024×1024 and then use your 2048 textures with the actual model. The mapping automatically adjust to the larger size proportionally.

Edit – Just did a quick test and a 2048 texture works fine with my system. I have 4 Gb of RAM though.

Cool, that’s good to know. I hope I can get this other snag fixed, then I’m sorted <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>

It’s something like that I believe. I’m assuming you’re doing a POV render on an object with two sided poly’s. For some reason the texture on the inside will bleed through with POV. So far I haven’t seen this effect in any of the sims proper. The only way I know of eliminating this is to select the outer or inner surfaces and split them. Then you might have to generate a tiny bit of spacing between them. It’s a pain sometimes but it doesn’t actually add to your poly count as I understand it.

Cheers mate, I’ll give that a go!
