trees using trainview facing flora.fx

Thanks again Rich but you’re further past where I’m trying to get to. I mean, I don’t even see how to apply the fx texture to the poly. How are you importing the fx so 3DC even sees it is my question. I only see 3 materials, wood, gem and something I can’t recall at the moment. I see the fx in the railsim dev folder but I don’t know how to import that into 3DC.

Not getting any response on this item from my last post,so will try again.Has anybody had any success in doing this with trees using 3DCs…

I try it too. at the moment with no success.

Hi BigPeter
You say you tried step by step to make the trees. Is there a tutorial for this.

I posted this same question in the UK rail sim forum and one person said was able to do it using 3dmax but could’t do it in 3DC.
Richard if you are around could you maybe enlighten us on this question..

Hi BigPeter
Apparently at the UKforum RSDerek is making a tutorial for this trainviewfacingflora for 3dmax.maybe we might be able to figure out how its done in 3DC unless 3DC hasn’t the capabilities to do it

I’m getting ready to work with this too but would somebody tell me where this TrainViewFacingFlora.fx shader is listed in 3DC? Or do I need to acquire it from a plug-in? Thanks!

Rich G

Hi Rich
The TrainviewFacingFlora.fx is one of the railSim shaders. It is listed in there Shader document.
From what I can gather sofar is that this shader doesn’t work in 3DC .I have tried the UK forum to find out about it as well and nobody seems to know how to make it work in 3DC. I haven’t had any problem making the other FX and non FX shaders working in 3DCs,so maybe there is a problem with the program. can’t seem to get any response from richard about this..

Thanks Rich for your help. I guess what I mean to ask is I can’t find out how to apply the FX shader to my tree in 3DC. Could I indulge you to explain this?

Hi Rich
That is the crux of the problem. I am trying to figure out how to use the 2 shaders,TrainViewrfacingFlora.fx and the TrainUprightViewfacingFlora.fx.As far as I can tell these 2 shaders are used on a flatplane tree and the tree face will follow the camera so it is always facing you. This cuts down on the polys. I cannot figure out how to do it in 3DC.I can make a cube, say .001m by19m by 9m,delete the backside face, texture the front side and in the property panel put in in TrainUprightViewFacingFlora.fx.save it,export it run the blue print editor and it shows up in railSim but does not have the facing view properties. The face does not follow the camera.
Apparantly it can be done in 3dmax but not in 3DC.That is why I wish Richard would respond to some of these posts.
