Totally confused

I have been using 3D Canvas off and on for about 10 years.

Today I decided to use 3D Crafter v9 and am totally confused. All I wanted to do was to place a cylinder on the screen by dragging it there, no problem at all. Then I wanted to turn it by 90 deg to lie it on its side.

In 3D Canvas it was just a case of right clicking it and selecting properties and change the Z to 90 deg. How do you do this in 3D Crafter v9? There is no properties in the right-click menu and the Properties list top right only seems to apply to groups, I have not got as far as a group, I only want to tip over one shape???

Mike

Hi Mike – lots of changes in the functions for 8 and 9 – takes a lot of getting used to.

Try Ctrl-double click to change the group properties. 3D Canvas was showing both the group and object properties on the same screen – it is the group properties that you need to edit.

Thanks Paul, that fixed it, but I still can’t see anywhere in the Help files where Ctrl-doubleclick is used to change group properties.

It’s here: [url:3u7o48gy]http://www.amabilis.com/documentation/misckeyboard.htm[/url:3u7o48gy]

To me… it’sthe most annoying and aggravating change ever made to 3DC… So much so… I barely want to use it now.

I manipulate items via properties more than any other activity…

Hi Pete,

I have to admit to still using 7.1.2 to build the model – instant access to group and object properties is critical for me too.

I have less spare time these days but still haven’t got used to the new UI.
The texturing options in 9.1 are definitely much better – I’ve started using both versions for some models now, building in 7.1.2, then adding textures in 9.1.

Paul

If you texture the 7.1.2 model in 9.1, can you then reopen the model in 7.1.2, or is it at that point incompatible?

[quote:2npwazns] …instant access to group and object properties is critical for me too.[/quote:2npwazns] AMEN! Absolutely critical to me.

Once version 8 or 9 touches it, there is really no going back. (i’m sure there is a way… but not without a hassle.)

Honestly… I’m having doubts about my ever using version 8 and 9 again at this point. Every session ends in frustration. It seems my older models don’t work well once converted (they eventually hang the GUI) so if they were created in 7 or prior… they should just stay that way and I should only work on *new* items in 8 or 9.

Or just start using Blender.

Is the issue that they are not combined into one panel? Based on my experience it’s actually faster in version 9 to get to group properties or shape properties than in version 7. Right-click/move mouse to item in menu/click on item works out to be more effort than ctrl-double-click to instantly open group properties/alt-double-click to instantly open shape properties.

Maybe not an issue to some, but ctl-double-click takes two hands.

Ah, ok. I understand now. Thanks. As the title of this topic says, i’ve been "Totall confused" on this one.

Now that I really understand the problem, I’ll see what I can do. I don’t have any more "menu entries" available to 3DCrafter at the moment (a limitation of my development environment), but maybe I can come up with something.

The next version of 3DC will have "Group Properties" and "Shape Properties" on the right-click menu. It should be available November 12th.

Is this for version 8 & 9?
Not that I use either.

Version 9. Version 8 only gets critical fixes at this point.
