Thick Walled Tubing?

Looks good so far.

Whats the best way to produce some thick walled tubing to use as the rim of a spoked wheel?
I’ve tried using two tubes one of smaller diameter and subtracting one from the other but this results in to many unwanted points and faces making a big clean up job.
Any ideas?

Thanks Bazza

DO you actually have to create it or can you emulate the rim by using a .tga file with an alpha channel applied to a cylinder ?

I guess it really depends on the actual depth of the object along it’s X axis as to whether the above will work or not. The above method would however eliminate the problem of many faces etc.

Cylinder

remove ends

select object, run ‘double side’ operation (if installed) or plugin.

If your original cylinder is the interior size, select all exterior faces and extrude by the rim width
– you may need to adjust the two check boxes for the extrude operation afterwards if this appears to do nothing.

I,m trying to write my own train sim in Blitz( I must be mad) and I’m testing both methods, proper wheels and the .tga alpha channel method.

Paul
Thanks I’ll give it a try.

ThanksV_F. I didn,t have a loco to get started with so I’m using Pauls 517 Class. Hope he doesn’t mind. This is how far I’ve got with the ‘proper wheel’ version and I must make some track!! Screenshot from Blitz

And again.I think I’m a bit over the top with the reflection maps on the dome!

The wheels are a bit on the slender side so need a bit of beefing up but they look nice close up.
