This ship is modelled from one cube for the basic design. The guns(cylinders), missiles(cylinders), cockpit(boolean subtraction), canopy(boolean subtraction), and seat are extras.

Very nice. How did you make that out of a cube? What I like the most is how the engines are nested in the body, and seem to blend in smoothly. How’d you manage that?

Les, you posted something after this, and then I posted something as well, but they seem to be gone now. Thanks for the information on how you made the fighter; I just wanted to know if you were doing anything I didn’t know about.

I think it’s just the power of the ‘smooth’ function that I noticed; I’m always trying to keep the polygon count low enough to import a model into StarLancer, or other games, where 1000-1200 is the limit. It’s not much, especially if you have a sphere or more than a couple curves, so ‘smooth’ is the kiss of death. I’ve had to change my style somewhat from organic shapes to harder edges. You can see the first model I made for the game at this link. Actually, I guess I can put up one of the pictures here as well…

You can see it’s got a sharp quality to it, but that’s the price you pay for being able to fly it around and shoot at stuff. This ‘seahorse’ model was particularly fun to fly around because the vertical design made turns and rolls look extra cool.

Anyway, keep up the good work. I just finished a model that was inspired by one of yours; I’ll post it in this forum.
