Texture problem

Hi Richard,

Sorry I forgot to respond to you on my above loco. It turned out that as several replies suggested, the tender had one material with incorrect ambient and spectral settings (I do not change these very often, so must have pressed the wrong figures somewhere).

However this material was not the top layer, and painting over it with the correct settings did not help – If I do something similar in future, how do I correct it?

In the end, I repainted my original unpainted model, but is it possible to correct a painted one to save all the extra work?

Can anyone advise regarding why in the following screenprints from within MSTS, on the lighted side of the loco, the loco is bright but the tender dull, whereas on the unlighted side they are both the same colour.

The textures are very similar and they look OK in 3DC?

My guess is that the textures on the tender have an ambient value of 0 rather than 20.

I’d suggest checking your material properties using the SceneDetails plug-in. Making sure ambient/specular etc are appropriate.

I have recently had a similar problem with a rake of coaches. some were lit ok, some dark. The problem seemed to occur at random. All the settings were identical. I found that, in almost all instances, if I applied a crease to the model it would be ok.

However, one model which I had shift rotated the body refused to change, so I gave up on it and reverted to an earlier unrotated version.

It should be possible to select the material using andquot;select-]by materialandquot; and then update using the UpdateMaterial plug-in. If you find a case where this doesn’t work please send it to me and I’ll have a look.
