Hi All,

I have just started the wagon tutorial from the web site and have found some problems(my fault I am sure),
Firstly in the tutorial you are told to select object properties / frame position – in my version (latest I think verion of 3DcPRO) tis says group position – is this the same?
secondly when I move / rotate the scene (not the model) mouse actions are reversed – is this normal?
also when i position (using the above mentioned group position) the parts go to the wrong place.

As a convert from Train Sim Modeller I have to say that even thought my early efforts are not yet up to scratch that changing software to 3CD is a great step forward!!!.

Thanks in advance

Jason

Yes, some of the andquot;user writtenandquot; tutorials are a bit out of date. I think all of the andquot;amabilisandquot; tutorials are up to date. I really ought to make changes to the user written tutorials to keep them up to date.

The movement isn’t reversed on mine, but my that may be because I am thinking of things in a different way. I think in terms of andquot;I am navigating through the sceneandquot;, where some people think in terms of andquot;I am moving the scene with my mouseandquot;.

Richard

When you’re navigating through the scene, you are actually moving the camera, and not the object you are looking at. Can be a bit confusing at first, but when you think about it, it’s the only method that really makes any sense in a 3d environment.

Try this: bring up the four-pane view (three orthographic views; side, plan and front; and a 3d view). Use the navigation tools in the 3d pane and watch the camera move in the orthographic views. Starts to make sense.

And, as you all no doubt know, there are no stupid questions, only stupid answers. So how about this one: I never use my mouse backwards. It makes the buttons hard to press and the cable always gets in the way.

Sorry, couldn’t resist.

I personally like the way the mouse movement works and had never considered it reversed until this post (if it worked the other way then I would probably find that confusing andnbsp;:) ). Perhaps an option in a later release could be to reverse the mouse actions – just to give the user the choice ?

The mouse is not backwards. It does however, take a bit of experience to fully master the navigation widgets.

Thanks guys – makes sense when you think about it!!! <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>

Like the one about mouse buttons too <!– s:D –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!– s:D –>

Whoever next question – I have imported a model reated in another programe and when I try to texture it the faces are divided into triangles – how can i join them together to place a single texture on them (ie texture the whole side of the model(a locomotive)

Thanks in advance

Jason

Yes, this is a little tricky. I only just learned it.

1. Don’t load your texture yet and select a color from the texture menu. We’ll pick yellow, it wont matter in the end. (remember, the red X will clear all texture settings to default)

2. Use the face painting tool from the edit toolbar andnbsp;(not the fill tool) to paint only the faces you want to texture.

3. Clear the color (X) and then load the texture you want to place (I think of this as putting on a decal)

4. Click andnbsp;to select the Point and Face Selection Tool. It is located on the Edit Toolbar. To select all faces that are yellow, Alt-Ctrl click anywhere on the yellow part of the model.

5. Don’t use the texture fill tool from the from the edit toolbar. Switch to the object operation panel and use the fill tool there. Press it and your done.

That *should* do it. (I hope… as that was from memory)

Pete

Thanks Pete ,

I will give it a go!!!!

Jason

Pete,

Just thought I would let you know I tried it ad it works a treat – andnbsp;;D andnbsp;
Thanks

Jason

Great!

You caught me when I had just learned this technique myself.

Hi All

I am trying to do the tutorial – Using the Lathe Tool. I created the object as told and exited the Lathe Tool Window. When i got to the part where it says right click on one of the face and click – select]By Direction this selects all of the faces that point the same direction as the face clicked. Then use the merge faces plug-in to merge the triangles into ONE face, but I can’t see this tool or plug in any where.

I have Pro 5.6, and even downloaded the plug-in to be on the save side but still no merge faces ???

andnbsp; andnbsp; andnbsp; Any Ideas

it should be under tools….

Alan, this is what I’ve got
looks like I,m missing another too. <!– s:( –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_sad.gif" alt=":(" title="Sad" /><!– s:( –>
