This is my current project. I havn’t done any space projects for a while so would like to get some comments from all you space experts. I can never seem to get the dirty look with my space textures. Still, must keep trying and I,ll get there one day.
This should be my signature :- All models with 3DC. Lightmapped with GILE(S). Screenshots from Blitz3D.

A view from the dark side.

The cargo bays. Still a lot of work to do here.

i like it. to me it could work well in a game.
just because of the shape and sharp curves on it. the green glow also adds to this game look.
-have you thought of putting this submission into the ‘low poly’ thread?
-reminds me of the game decent.

Did you create the textures?

I think most any paint program that would allow you to add a layer of rust spots, burn marks, or some other form of dirtying up look would probably do the trick for you. I like Paint Shop Pro since getting it, but you could also check out Dogwaffle, and maybe (Pixia, by Tacmi). Both of these are free softwares, but I’m not sure how much you can do with them.

Thanks Les. Like you I’m using Paint Shop Pro and produced the textures myself.I made a basic panel texture 128×128, copied it as a new image and used the straw wall effect on the new image to make the fine detail, then cloned sections of it back into some of the panels.I really need to spend more time learning how to use all the features in Paint Shop Pro. I’ll try your tip with the rust idea and see what I can come up with.

Sorry Korben I didn’t notice your post. Thanks for the comments. This shot is from an animation I doing in Blitz. You know, ship travelling towards mysterious planet, so could easily be used as an intro to a game. All the lighting was done with GILE(S) and I wasn’t to sure about the green glow but its growing on me.

WOW! I like the green! Do you have a link for the vid?

Nice textures.

I’ve never thought to try Giles on anything but ‘levels’ (indoor maps’) off to play a bit….

Sorry about the long delay but havn’t been able to get into the forums for three weeks now!
I don’t have a web site yet I must get this sorted out.
By using Blitz3D I can create animations/demos of any length without having to save each frame.
You could in fact create an hours video footage using very little memory.
The green light was created in Gile(s) lightmapper before loading into Blitz.

I find Gile(s) works just as well on outdoor scenes, see MADAM FIFIS. This is a very large adventure type setting both indoors and outdoors, with I think four 512×512 lightmaps.
I do find it difficult to represent normal daylight, I seem to get things to bright or to dark. However if you make the outdoor area nightime Gile(s) really can make your scenes come alive.
