Some simple Asteroids or Rocks

Thanks Les, I will be downloading them <!– s:) –><!– s:) –>

Hi All,
I created some simple irregular shaped objects that could be used as asteroids or rocks. Two of these were created using cubes, the others are spheres.

Basically all I did was to reduce the number of faces and points on the spheres to get an odd shape, then used the andquot;deformandquot; tool, triangulated, and applied a primary and secondary texture. On the cubes I smoothed first then did the same operations as the spheres, so it’s probably just as easy to use a sphere to start with.

I will be uploading this file to Richard in case anyone wants to see it in 3DC.

Here’s the pic,
Les

I’d be interested in seeing them in 3dc so I could understand how they were done, they look very good for asteroids…I’d played with doing something similar some time ago, but did not have as good of results.

cyrus,
I sent the file to Richard, and I’m sure when he gets time he will make them available. If you want, I can send you the file directly. It’s about 345kb(zipped) in size. Just email me at <!– e –>les2002p@aol.com<!– e –>.

I think after creating these asteroids, the easiest primitive to use will be the sphere. Using the andquot;Reduceandquot; operation gives a slightly irregular shape, and then you can use the Deform Tool to shift groups of faces/points to get even more irregular. Once you get your basic shape, you could use either the Soften, or Smooth Operations if you like, but the texturing alone seems to give a smoother appearance.

Both the textures I used are in the andquot;Stone2andquot; texture library available on the Textures page at Amabilis. I think it is just called Stone on the download page, but it will show as Stone2 in 3DC. You could probably make several of these textures work.

Let me know if you want them right away,

Les

Hello,
For anyone interested, Richard has made the Asteroids.zip file available for download on the Models Page at Amabilis.com.
I hope you enjoy them.

Thanks again Richard,

Les
