SketchUp to 3DC — new, easy way!

I just posted this at t-s.com, but I think it is good enough news to cross-post it here:

Over at UKTS I stumbled over what might come close to the breakthrough on the question of importing models from SketchUp into 3DC.

I post this here as the original thread at UKTS seems to have been without much reaction, only one reply. Here is the original thread:

This is the by far best working object exporter I have found yet. It exports to the OBJ format, is very basic (no options/settings), but does a really good job getting the sctructure into 3DC in one piece, without breaking up the model into hundreds of tiny polygons.

There are only two issues with it:
– no texture or mapping export from as far as I could see
– it exports your model in inches, so you need to scale the imported model by 0.0254 in 3DC. Easy enough, though.

Here is a screenshot of an imported model’s wireframe, it is the slightly more complex Boston Trinity Place station building:
