Scaling twisting (Resolved)

I’ll call this one resolved. I’ll have to update the tutorials.

Hi Richard

I’m trying your whale tutorial and when I try to scale the extrusions they twist at the same time in the horizontal and vertical directions.

This can be replicated by scaling the face of a new cube.

I could be missing something I should be doing.

Cheers,
Alex

Yes, that’s a bug. Definitely.

It looks to me like I should add an ‘exception’ for the scaling of faces. The only problem is that the ‘direction’ shown in the ‘highlighting’ modes won’t show correctly. I’m not certain this is so important.

Another option is to recommend in the tutorials that the ‘f’ key be held down while scaling. This will cause the scaling to be based on the normals of the faces selected.

I’ll give the ‘f’ key a try.
I’m assuming this is a current feature.

I’m not sure what you mean in the first option.

This is the way I see a solution.
A face is selected for scaling then one or more of x,y or z planes should be excluded from movement.
Hope that makes sense.
I think I’m saying the same thing as the ‘f’ key suggestion, but without having to press ‘f’.

The ‘f’ key does work. <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>

I’m thinking the current way may be more versatile. But, I’ll think on it.
