Problems with ATI display adapter

This is the one Vulcan_Foundry posted above. A VB error one obviously can’t do much that helps.

All of a sudden I’ve got lots of troubles with the display adapter. (I ‘ve been working happily along with 3DC in the evening but next morning it wouldn’t load any more) I can use 3DC in compatibility mode but it crashes every time I try to start it in normal mode with error message #-2147417848. I’ve got an ATI 9600 pro video adapter and I tried all the drivers from 5.12 back to 4.10. I uninstalled 3DC completely and reinstalled – nothing worked. As I’m in the middle of a project whitch has to be finished in 10 days help would be urgently needed.

It may sound like a silly question but when you installed the Catalyst drivers did you also include the option for the Catalyst Control Center and not have MS NET 1.1 installed ? If you did make sure you have Microsoft NET 1.1 installed otherwise you can get some apps that simply crash for no other reason that I could decipher. I still use 4.12 as it seems to be the most stable driver so far with my X800 Pro.

The only other thing I could think of is if you have made any changes just prior to the problem that may also be the cause ?

Thanks for the suggestions but I don’t have the Control Center installed; even if I had, I’ve MS NET 1.1 installed anyway. I tried every driver from 5.12 to 4.8 but no luck on the contrary the problem deteriorated. Before I did any changes I could still work in compatibility mode a little sluggish and with some display restrictions; now I can’t even start 3DC any more. When I try compatibility mode it tells me I’ve got an error #5 and crashes.

No problems with directx at all ? <!– s:) –><!– s:) –>

No problems says dxdiag. No virus says Norton, registry is clean, no spyware etc. and (what’s most irritating) no changes whatsoever between the working session in the evening and the impossible session next morning <!– s:? –><!– s:? –>

Are you able to do a System Restore to a point before this happened ?

If this doesn’t work you could try to reinstall Directx over your current install with whatever version you were using before just to make sure that your dxdiag is correct.

Bit of mystery.. ? <!– s:) –><!– s:) –>

Did you try loading your project replying ‘no’ to running in compatibility mode and replying ‘yes’ to try to use your unsaved model (not the exact words of the message…) whether your model was saved or not before the crash.

It may sound as a strange procedure but it helped me continuing a model when I was getting error 35605.

Yes, it’s quite mysterious. I already did a system restore and I reinstalled directx9.0c too, unfortunately nothing changed. I’ve run out of ideas….. <!– s:( –><!– s:( –>

The error number reports as a run-time error or possibly a bug within MS VB6.

It doesn’t help much but I’m running out of ideas.

You could try the following by updating MS Jet and DAC.

Thanks for your efforts. The devil is I have the latest version of MSJet installed and Windows doesn’t let me install MDAC2.8 because it says these functions would be integrated in the windows system. This seems consistent with the remark on the windows update page that RTM wouldn’t be supported by microsoft any more. I’m really out of clues ….

@DOM107
3DC crashes inevitably when it’s loading the components. No way around this.

Hannes64 : what you mean is important : do not update MSJet (I believe there is no way to go back ?).

I’ll check my configuration (I have an ATI card) to list MDAC (with ‘component checker’ [img:27hy3wp2]http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=8f0a8df6-4a21-4b43-bf53-14332ef092c9anddisplaylang=en[/img:27hy3wp2]

? , MSJet version (msjet*.dll ?).

I’ve MSJet40 which is updated automatically via windows update. MDAC I’ve got 2.8 SP1 on Windows XP SP2. Cant’t do much about it.

I just checked. I have the same versions of MDAC and MSJet.

My too I’m afraid. <!– s:) –><!– s:) –>
