It looks to me like the ATI is anti-aliasing the line drawing. The NVidia is not.
The ATI looks much better <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt="" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>
Could be an option in them video card driver setup.
