PovRay

Thanks everyone.
I have succesfully imported 3dc into povray… As of yet I am getting very to much- shiny, but I have been busy for the last week.

I will play with it for a while and let you know how it works out… <!– s:D –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!– s:D –>

Hello!
I am wondering if you can tell me some basic settings to get Pov Ray to render photo-realistic images?? ???

All my versions of PovRay and 3dC6 are up to date.

If I was to start out with a primitive- say… Just a primitive and get it to look like plastic…

I am guessing that settings would need to be changed in the actual PovRay program to get it to render better as the image seems to look even better in 3DC than it does after it is rendered?

here is the pic in 3DC

here is the pic that is rendered

here is the full screen image on 3DC in case you need a better view of some of my settings…

icergb,
One thing you might try is adding a reflection value to your line of code that describes the ambient, diffuse, translucent, etc. Just add it to the beginning of the code line and use a value of 1, 2, or 3 to start with and go from there to get the effect you want.

Also, PovRay has some really nice preset materials. You can open any of the samples provided and find the surface appearance that suits your needs. Pov has most of the samples as andquot;Includeandquot; files(xxxx.inc).

I use reflection a lot when working with simple colors, and use the metals.inc if I want something like chrome, gold, copper, etc.

When using .inc files like metals, stone, or whatever,
make sure to list the file at the top of your code with the other .inc files you see there.

I hope this helps,
Les

I guess I should mention that I tried different settings for ;diffuse; specular;translucent and ambient and I get the same sort of fuzzy detail…

I am used to more of 3d for small amounts of vertices for DBPro…

I was hoping to make a little animated intro into a avi from 3DC Pro.

Any help would be appreciated!!!

Hi andnbsp;icergb,
andnbsp; You need to put your model textures into POV,s andquot;include fileandquot; , also.
andnbsp;KB

Don’t know alot, but when in 3DC go to file (upper left corner) and export to pov ray. You will get a window, letting you save the file to where ever you want. Then when you open the saved file, it will open in pov ray and there you go. ;D

I am very new and do not know where to begin.

If I have Povray open in the system tray and try to take a snapshot
I get an error from povray, that
andquot;only edit and render may be passed into previous instanceandquot;. 3dC says that I may not have the textures in the proper folders, but I am using the default textures.

If I hit the render button when povray is open
[img:aaxls5el]http&#58;//www&#46;boyar&#46;net/raytrace&#46;jpg[/img:aaxls5el]

the system hangs…

If I hit the render button when povray is closed, then Povray pops up for a second and then closes, and I cannot find the current image/file I am working on in Povray.

How do I get my 3d scene from 3DC into Povray?
Should Povray be closed when I render from 3DC?
Where is my image gone into?

Should I set Povray .inc files and then render from 3dC or should I render from Povray???

Please help…
Maybe a small step by step Please???

Ex!

Helps, Thank You.

icergb,
After you export to PovRay, open the file in the PovRay code editor. If you only have one texture on your object, then it should be shown as andquot;Tex0andquot; in the Pov code. Then just look for the line of code in the texture code, that describes andquot;ambient, diffuse, etcandquot;, add reflection to that line( I put it at the begining of the line), add a value and render the scene. Try higher reflection values for more shininess or reflection, and lower for less. That should do what you want I believe.

Les

P.S.
If that doesnt look the way you want it to, then try applying one or more of PovRay’s preset plastic textures. One of these methods should give you the appearance you andnbsp;want.

Les Is right. The POV textures for things like metals, and plastics, woods, etc, work really well. Alot of times, when using POV, its the lighting that will make or break the render. Getting a good photorealistic image with POV takes alot of trial and error. Also, I’ve found when using POV, what is being reflected can greatly change the outcome of your render. Sometimes, you’d think you want chrome to be as shiney, or as reflective as you can get, but its not always the case. Play with the values, and do yourself the favor and read the help files..they have all the answers and some really good examples of just about every attribute you want. POV is loaded with , what I call andquot;pre-writtenandquot; codes that you can literally paste into your model’s code lines. I’ve been playing with it for years now, and still find new and really cool things to try and use all the time. Have fun and just keep playing with it. andnbsp;:P
