Port Daniel Station

Deanville,
Thanks for the link, this should be a big help with the port complex, loads of ideas to be gleaned. <!– s:) –><!– s:) –>

Electroburger,
Thanks for the comments, no need for the apology, everyone is welcome to comment on anything.

Many thanks AGAIN for your remarks, sorry to hear about your jaw!! <!– s:D –><!– s:D –>

I’m sure if I keep posting these images it will eventually tempt you into buying Blitz3d. <!– s:) –><!– s:) –> Maybe something to put on your Christmas list for Santa. You already have Gile and 3DC so your two thirds of the way there.

I’m giving these big scenes a rest for a while and I’ve just started work on a ‘Dukedog’, but like yourself I’m also a real ‘slow poke’, so this could take a while.

After doing Port Daniel the loco shed complex, I thought the station with just four main structures would be a breeze. How wrong can you be, it’s taken over four months, has 110,000 polys and over 120 textures.
The whole scene is about a scale two thirds of a mile long with the station area in the middle and an open country run-in section on either side.
First a long shot of the station section.

Models with 3DC, lightmapped with Gile, screenshots from Blitz3D

Next the station building from the approach road. All I need now is 50 or so animated passengers and some buses and taxis. <!– s:o –><!– s:o –>

And again from the platform side.

The trees BTW were made with Tree[d], a freebee when you puchase Gile

When you add up the total poly count for the scene and include the loco and wagons, it’s about 170,000 polys but everything still works as smooth as silk. Amazing considering the number of texures plus twelve lightmaps @ 1024×1024 and one at 512×512. <!– s:) –><!– s:) –>

Beautiful!

Thanks Deanville.

Actually this is Port Daniel East. The next part of the scene will be the port itself and I know just the person to help me with all things nautical. <!– s;) –><!– s;) –>

Bazza,

You’ve done some great modelwork here. Its a good looking scene and looks like a fun project. I’m looking forward to your next progress update!

Thanks Wayne,

Your LandPS looks interesting.

To get away from the railway modelling for a while I’m going to add a ‘Places to Visit’ feature at each station. This way I can model things not railway related, say a visit to the local pub. Or maybe spend a night in the haunted house on Elm St. <!– s:) –><!– s:) –>

Bazza,

for some boat models done for Virtual Sailor in directx format.

Wayne,

The LPandS is really coming along nicely. Beauty. I’ve ridden the LPandS car at the Halton County museum a while ago, glad to see the line being ‘preserved’.

(Was there ever an ex-South Shore diner or parlor car on the LPandS property?)

More to the point, how did you do your catenary? What do you do on curves – is there any inclined catenary (like the North Shore on the Skokie Valley Route) or vertical (like the Milwaukee Road)?

Thanks all.

So as not to hi-jack Bazza’s thread, I’ll reply to electroburger offline – check your hotmail.

And Bazza, your idea for modelling key scenes away from the railroad is right on. Keep up the great work!

Wayne

Bazza,

Sorry, I didn’t mean to steal your thunder. These scenes are truly beautiful. A trackside pub would be a nice place to spend most of the summer.

Bile beans?

Thats just great, now I have to get my jaw re-wired AGAIN as its just hit the floor !

Yuck..I hate carpet fluff.

Brillant Bazza, I really love the work and effort you’ve put into this scene. <!– s:) –><!– s:) –>
