"Out of memory" error while exporting IGS on 9.2.2 in Win 7 64bit

I’m still getting “Out of memory” errors in 9.2.2 in Win 7 64bit when exporting IGS file. Comp has 4 Gig memory. It’s a large model but the strange thing is it exports fine on a laptop running XP (32bit) in 9.2.2. and that has only 1 Gig memory. Really too slow to use that though. Is Crafter fully 64bit compatible ?

There’s a solution to this on my blog:

http://www.mikerenniesmodels.blogspot.com.es/p/railworks-tips-and-tricks.html.

I’ll repeat what it says …

How to correct an “out of memory” error when running a 32-bit program like 3DCrafter on a 64-bit machine with lots of memory.

I have a 64-bit Windows 7 PC with 12GB of RAM. The model of the Consolidation got so big that I kept getting an “out of memory” error when trying to export it to an .igs file. It seemed to happen when the memory used by 3DC reached about 1.5GB. I fixed this by installing the “Explorer Suite” from NTCore (http://www.ntcore.com/4gb_patch.php) and then using its “CFF Explorer VII” tool, following the instructions given here to ensure that the executable of 3DC can handle more than 2GB of memory: http://www.talkgraphics.com/showthread.php?42418-32-bit-memory-limit-removal-utility&s=618af0a0b6a13771159d3ad990d3ee70

3D Crafter.exe already patched for my 4Gig memory. Running Win Resource Monitor memory used goes up to 2870 MB used and stays steady until it crashes with no spike after a minute or two. Still have over a Gig of memory free. Was expecting 3D Crafter to use 3.5 Gig’s but it does not. Must be the way the exporter is written and not handling memory efficiently in 64 bits. All very frustrating having to export on an old 32bit computer. Thanks anyway. Hopefully support arrives in the near future. Might try more memory if my laptop can take it.
