Objects don’t show (By Hans Schobesberger)

Does it appear in the list of objects in Route Editor when you try to add an item? If so, it may be appearing below ground level. I just made a telephone kiosk, and started by making the roof, and ended by adding the main body object to the roof object in the final merge. When I added it to a route, most of it is underground. Its a matter of where the axis point ends up, I think.

Amabilis Forum: Microsoft Train Simulator Export: Objects don’t show

I’d be most grateful for a 3d program for creating objects for MSTS alas I couldn’t create objects with 3DC that would show in MSTS. I did everything exactly as prescribed on the website with one exception: there is no andquot;txt2uni.exeandquot; file with my (German) version of MSTS. So I loaded the exported *.s files into Wordpad and saved them as unicode files. Could this be the problem? If so, where can I get this andquot;txt2uni.exeandquot; a search on the web and on the Microsoft site produced nothing. (The *.s files I get look completely different from the original *.s files that come with MSTS.)

I did not need the text2uni to get my object into MSTS. I saved BOTH the .sd and .s files using WordPad as unicode text files and had no problem.
Make sure you converted your texture file to an .ace file. I found I had to place the .ace texture file in the Globaltexture directory as well as the routeandquot;route nameandquot;texture directory

MRRextreme:

Funny, I didn’t have to add my .ace files to the global texture directory. . .I have released an object for download on train-sim.com, though, and if I get a flood of emails saying it doesn’t work, I’ll remember that <!– s:-) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":-)" title="Smile" /><!– s:-) –>

Thanks for help; tried both, still no show.

Yep, I will have to sort out the telephone kiosk and repost it, but it was 2.30am this morning when I finished fighting with the Route Editor which kept wanting to delete unknown markers, and I wanted to get it released. andnbsp;:-[

Ian,

I think you are right on that score. I’ve been ‘playing’ with some engine elements and the axis point for the main object frame is placed at ground level in the centre of the track. I use this as the datum for placing other objects correctly. The z (blue) axis in 3DC is forward in MSTS and the +ve x axis (red) is right looking forward.

Mike
