MSTS rod animation @ 16 keyframes

Hi Peter

Many thanks for that Peter. The first Anim section line defaults to 8 30. When I go for 16 frames it becomes 16 30 after unchecking ‘Create default animation’.
Changing this to 16 60 cures the problem. <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>

Now for all the valve gear anims…..

Roger

Previous locos all with inside motion were ok with default 8 keyframe rods but I’m now trying to build my first loco with outside motion. This shows up the ‘bumping’ effect at the forward end of the piston rod so I’ve been trying to follow what instructions I can find to convert it all to 16 frame.

If I use the rod anim plugin to convert the basic model created by the engineer plugin I’m finding that:
1. If I leave Create default animation ticked during export to MSTS the wheels all work ok but the wheel-links (rod01 and rod02) spin round with the wheel for 8 frames and then back for the remaining 8 frames.
2. If I untick the Create default animation box then the link rods work correctly but the wheels all turn too slowly and skid along the rails.

I can create the piston animation ok at 16 frames (less bumping effect) and it all tests out ok within 3DC 7 pro but I’m unable to get a successful export to MSTS whatever I try.

I have looked through this forum but can’t find an answer. Can anyone help please?

Hi

This is for your option 2
you need to open the uncompressed s file with wordpad and using the find option type anim, this should take you to a line containing the number 30, I dont have any s files on my pc at the moment so I cant remember the rest of the line, anyway you will need to change that value to 60, this controls the rotation speed of the animation and as 8 frames are standard for MSTS 16 is double and infact slows the animation down by half.
