MSTS

Hi Larry,

You don’t need MSTS to use 3DC… Some of us use 3DC to make train models for Microsoft Train Simulator… Although – 3DC should be able to be used to build anything… Paul recently made – what I believe – is the first plane for Microsoft Flight Simulator via 3DC… So – if you like trains – I would recommend MSTS…

LOL – I did the whale tutorial too – my first attempt made a pretty sorry looking whale…

It’s a good place to start to get you familiar with navigating around 3DC…

Happy Holidays to you too…

Regards,
Scott

Hi:

As I am very new, I am reading everything that I can. Scott had answered my first post in stating that he used MSTS. Is this a plugin? Where can I find it? I guess if there is something that I can start with let it be MSTS. I gather that it has something to do with ‘making trains’ … cars, engines. Seems like fun. <!– s:) –><!– s:) –>

Added: I installed the ‘Train Simulator Plug-in Pack. I also printed out the tutorial ‘Microsoft train Simulator Basics’.

Step 1: Tools/Use Plug-in/Trainworks/Train Simulator Wizard.

I then get a box which I can only click ‘OK’.

Then I get a search box saying ‘Select utils folder within your microsoft train simulator installation’. (I do not know where to go; I do not understand.) So, I click ‘cancel’.

Then I have another box so I click ‘attributes’, then it takes me right back to the above search box. I saw nothing about EUROPE1.

So I got nowhere tonight. <!– s:) –><!– s:) –>

Welcome Larry – I guess you haven’t been around trainsims too long!

MSTS (Microsoft Train Simulator) is the oldest and still the most popular of the 3D train simulators, the others being Trainz, RailWorks and BVE. MSTS has been a bargain-bin product for some time so you may have difficulty finding a copy.

You can build trains and scenery models for all these sims in 3DC; the basic techniques are the same, although stuff for the newer sims is generally more sophisticated.

You will need the Pro version of 3DC in order to export them into your chosen sim. And of course you’ll also need to install the sim!

You can learn more about the hobby and the various sims by visiting eg [img:24yqveil]http://www.uktrainsim.com[/img:24yqveil]

Also make sure you have version 7.1.2.0 instead of 7.1.1.2

This has a few improvements and my extra plugins are for that version:

Thanks Longbow and Paul.

I went searching for MSTS, and found where there are some being sold (New and Used) on Amazon.

Paul, I went everywhere on amabilis.com and did not see the version 7.1.2.0. Thanks for the links. <!– s:) –><!– s:) –>

Added: I have installed 7.1.2.0, the new help, trainworks, and the above 3DCPlunins712.

If the MSTS in Amazon.com is correct, then I will obtain it. Also should I get TSM when ready to begin my work? <!– s:) –><!– s:) –>

No need for TSM! 3DC does everything that TSM does (plus a bit more)

A little way off yet but eventually you will not need MSTS – [img:2irw69qf]http://www.openrails.org[/img:2irw69qf]
<!– m –>http://www.openrails.org<!– m –>
– this one will be free.

I still have my train set, minus the tracks. … engine, three cars, and a caboose. c.1950. The engine wheels still move … just tried again. I must have been about 4 years old. Sparks use to flare when she went. Engine 1110 (2-4-2). She’s fairly heavy … approx. 9′ length … Lionel Corporation, New York, N.Y. … Coal-Black.

Now for my daily ignorant question: Why do I need MSTS? Does the program make it ‘work in animation’?

I am now on Lesson 1 for the whale. I have had to re-do many times trying to complete the assignment. I guess that since it was written, wordage has changed or I was expected to know.

Anyway the holidays are about upon us. If you are on the road … be safe. Happy holidays. Happy New Year and a ‘very good year’ to each of you though I do not know many of you. <!– s:) –><!– s:) –>

I understand UKTS has a limit stock of MSTS for sale at the moment.
