Mirror pb / swap coordinate axes

Yes, right I just did what I wanted with a combination of Shift selection and properties.

Thanks

Hello,

I started a new engine.
The roof surface is quite difficult to make with 3DC extrude, shift and point position.

1) When I mirror the half of the engine, I have faces inside. It will be a problem when making the cab.

(image on the right : view from inside).
Before mirroring, I checked that the flat face is actually flat.

2) I want to swap the x and y axis

I can use Ctrl shift with the mouse but it is not an accurate method. The final object might be slightly tilted.

Thanks for your help.

(btw I hope 3DC 7.0 doesn’t store a point position when choosing cancel)

I’m not sure I understand.

When I use mirror… I always remove the inside faces before the mirror operation.

Instead of using the Mirror operation, can’t you just clone the half you already have then use the Flip operation on the clone along it’s x axis.
Position the two halves as required, merge them together and weld all the points along the seam.

Yes, you understood !
And I am going to try your suggestion.

Good idea too; I’ll try it if I am not satisfied with the first solution. In both cases, I’ll need to remove the inside faces.

Thanks !

No other solution for swapping axes than Shift Tool + Ctrl + mouse ?

You can always manually control the AXIS settings by typing in coordinates on the properties window.

There are also plugins… like:

Shift Centre plug-in that shifts the whole object without deformation so that its group position (pivot point) is centred on the average of the points selected

What I would like is the y axis to become the x axis and vice-versa, without any change of position of the object in the scene.

I want to do that to have a correct positionning after MSTS export.

That’s exactally what can do Shift Tool + Ctrl + mouse but it is not easy to have an exact 90- rotation of the coordinate system.

If you right click the Shift Operation not the tool you can set the amount of rotation you want.
