Thanks Timo – the textures are just me playing around in serif photoplus 7. I should of made a basic texture for all sides and then just added detail – as you can see there are colour variation on the different sides and the textures don’t line up properly …. but I am getting there….
Les, I thought it already was andquot;required studyandquot; – I know I wish that I’d had a proper look at them

Today I deceided (i before e except… any chance of a spell checker on this forum, Richard ?) try again…. Today I thought I would try to learn about UV mapping, well this is my first real attempt….. still a long way to go <!– s:( –><!– s:( –>
It is also using the andquot;Les Methodandquot; – cube, extrude, shift, etc. Normally I just keep throwing primatives at a scene ’till I’m happy… but this appears to work well.
Details of Scene

Object Count: 1
Face Count: andnbsp; 482
Point Count: andnbsp;492
OK the count could of been lower……
If anyone wants it I can send it on……

Alan,
That’s a couple of really nice ships, and the poly count is ok I think. Was the face/point count taken before or after triangulating? Triangulating will increase the poly count but for these two models it shouldn’t make it all that high.
Richard told me once that some game engines can handle up to about 10K poly count, so if you decide to use these in a game, just try to get a decent game engine.
Les
P.S.
There’s no e after the c in decided……..

and to think that I have been avoiding this UV stuff for 6 months ! It is quite easy, once you read the instructions <!– s:) –><!– s:) –> now all I need is some more practice….

Both the counts are after triangulation <!– s:) –><!– s:) –>
These were both just experiments into ‘The Les Method’, ‘low poly count’ and ‘time to get this UV stuff worked out’. I must admit that I like all three techniques and that I was surprised at how easy they all are. This weekend has definitely been a big learning experience for me with 3dc – I just like this program more and more <!– s:) –><!– s:) –>
P.S. – this one has been spell checked <!– s:) –><!– s:) –>

I like that name(The Les Method)…
I wonder if, at some point in the future, andquot; The Les Methodandquot; might become a required study…… :
Gives me a few ideas…..hehehe
