LOD Problem with 6.6.5.12

I have this fixed for version 6.6.5.13 and 7.0.0.1. Both will be released shortly.

Frank,

I’ll have a look. I’m not sure what it could be. It is the classic ‘mismatched version’ symptom. But, I guess it must be something else.

Richard

After a lengthy pause I returned to modelling and tried to tackle the LOD difficulties again. I built a simple model (small station), cloned it, used the trainsim wizard, but MSTS crashed and Shape viewer simply vanishes without any other reaction when I try to load the model. Without LODs it loads ok.
Now I thought I had done something wrong with multiple textures or different ambient or specular values. So I tried with a simple cube, textured it cloned it, renamed the clone ‘Main.100’ used the trainsim wizard and shape viewer crashed again. Does it not work with LODs any longer or is there another cause for my failure to export the model?

Added: Another smaller but annoying problem is that cloning quite often does not retain the textures.

Hi Hannes

I have the same problems.
But i have installes
– deinstall all 3DC version
– remove ALL 3DC directorys (c:program file, mydocuments)
– update winxp, all updates,
– new nvidia grafik driver,
– direktx 9 (version 6.5 is not running corr. under directx 9
– boot pc
– install 3DC 6.6.5.12 (other versions will not run on my german pc’c)
– start 3DC, enter license and close it
– install adon converter
– install power upgrade
– copy all addons, operations,scripts
– start 3DC, and it is running.

i have search two weeks to find corretions for older 3DC version, but this older versions would not be run without errors and crashes.

6.6.5.12 is at the moument the only version this run on accetable way on my machines.

6.7 has the same probblem as the older version on my pc’s an y will way to buy this version if amabilis have a version that is running on my pc’s.

important: 6.6.5.12 will not run with both installed versions with older 3DC (6.5.x, etc…)! You must be remov older versions!!

Isn’t a problem of directx 9 but of nvidia drivers over the 80.xx version.

The 6.5 version run correctly only with forceware 78.xx and under.

On the dual core is a cool thing to have the 2 version running side by side. <!– s:D –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!– s:D –>

Thanks for your answer. But..

I had a completely fresh install from 6.6.5.12, no other version ever installed on this computer. Windows XP is on automatic updates, I have the latest Nvidia drivers, I have DirectX 9.0c installed. After I had those troubles with LODs I uninstalled completely (registry and folders) and reinstalled but nothing changend. Still get crashing cubes with one LOD.

To clarify: I have no problems installing or running 3DC6.6.5.12 it’s only the LOD issue and as a side issue the retaining of textures when cloning. The latter does not seem to happen when I copy and paste (I’m not quite sure about that).

One hitch with installing comes to mind after reading some other postings: I had the 1931 Error during install with the request f++r a dx8vb.dll which the installer wants obviously to change but is ‘protected by windows’. Richard stated in some other posting that this would be a non-destructive error…..

I’ll have to look into this. There were some changes made to the MSTS exporter. I could have broken this.

Actually, I want to look into LOD’s in more detail anyhow.

MSTS Wizard plugin doesn’t work for me at all in either 66511 or 12. Clicking on the option doesn’t open the popup screen at all.

Frank

It sounds like a mismatched 3DC/Pro Upgrade. Whenever you upgrade 3DC to a new version you need to uninstall the Pro Upgrade and download a new one from the Help menu of the newly installed version.

Richard,

I always do that. However I completely uninstalled 6.6.5.12 both the basic and pro upgrade, redownloaded the free version, went through the upgrade process after redownloading the upgrade, installed. It made no difference to the MSTS Wizard plugin, still no popup.

Richard,

does that mean that I have to migrate to version 7 or will there be an update for 6.6.5?

Just bought the upgrade to Version 7 but the problem is the same. No working LOD export!
